Weather Stations

Significantly different environment between where I currently reside and the nearest Bureau of Met weather station, so giving thought to installing a weather station on my plot. We are at the top of an inland ridge and BoM station is down on the beach. Looking for recommendations.

Preferable solar powered pole-top remote sensors with wi-fi to base station. Perhaps updating at half hour intervals to Linux box and yet-to be registered domain and host.

I have heard of members here doing similar, so suggestions as to what works would be appreciated. Thanks.

They have improved displays (first one was B&W) and connectivitty as well.
Easy to set up and good prices.

Mine is the 2902B

It is solar powered with battery backup. The sensor talks to the base display around 434 Mhzand the display then connects to the internet via WiFi.
It just works. I bought it as it had all the functions I wanted predominantly windspeed. It updates every 16seconds. I am just connected to"Weather underground"

There are much more expensive solutions available.

I've had a Davis Vantage Pro2 for the last 13 years. The solar powered weather station, with battery backup, is pole mounted in a field about 100 metres from the house and connects wirelessly to the console in my study. It updates about every four seconds. The console connects to a very basic PC running nothing else other than Windows 10 and Weather-Display software and is on 24/7. Information from that software is uploaded to my website at https://www.glenbervie-weather.org and produces four forecasts a day. Obviously additional software is required to produce the WXSIM forecasts and that is a one-off cost and well supported. Weather-Display is also a one-off cost and well supported.

Problems - I'm on my third anemometer...but it does take a bit of a hammering in this northerly location. I bought the console with a USB connection version to the PC and in the early days everyone had problems with that. It hasn't been possible to power the console with the supplied power supply and I run my console on batteries only so I don't get frequent drop outs of info from the console to the PC. They may have fixed that in the last 13 years - I have no idea. 13 years ago the alternative was a serial port connection and apparently that worked well with a mains powered console.

The Davis VP2 is about £675 in the UK for the basic version. To that you can add a solar sensor, UV sensor etc etc. Not the cheapest bit of kit by any means but apart from the anemometer replacements it's lasted 13 years without too many problems.
