Disposing of used 35mm negatives/film

Having a clearout, looking for something which I haven't found but at least I've got rid of a lot of rubbish, I found a whole lot of 35mm colour negatives, in strips. It's almost a kilo.
As it's plastic and contains various compounds, I suppose there's an eco-friendly way to dispose of it?
Any ideas? I suppose I could always ask at a photographic shop, or maybe a radiologist as I assume they dispose of old x-rays the same way.
