Re-newing a UK passport on-line

Anyone done this yet?

I'm having a problem meeting the photo specs.

The passport office require the JPEG file to be at least 50KB, but must not be altered by means of a computer.

I'll be trying again tomorrow when the battery for my Cannon camera is charged up.

I had trouble with the photo, I had a really good likeness, professional, which I scanned in. They did not like the way that my glasses obscured a very little of my eyes and I had to resubmit a picture without glasses.

Probably not a lot of use to you two, but I did my photos in a Tesco photo booth and there’s a computer link on the website, put in the code and away you go, just over a week from start to finish :D

It says on the web site that the photo file must NOT be processed in any way.

How do they know if it's been processed?

I went to find the photo booth in my local T.esco to find it gone. The smiley lady said that she now did the job and that I should sit down. She had rather a swish camera hooked up to a biggish computer. Pictures taken swiftly and shown on the screen. Was I happy with how I looked? I was. That'll be £4.50. She printed out a sheet of prints for me and I came home. SWMBO said "That's a nice photo of you"?? It had come up on my PC for my approval.
In to the website, fill in details, approve photo, front up my £98? and the job was done in about 5 mins. Four days later my new (dark blue) passport comes in the mail. Very slick. Tick VG.

+1 from Spain. Takes 5 working days, or ours did, via DHL. IIRC the eye watering bit is the £147 cost.

I think the policy is that passports are done at cost, no subsidy from the taxpayer. I don't know how long it takes someone to review your application, or how much checking they do (old passport plus relevant documents shouldn't take much longer than make sure it's all there and that the old passport hasn't been reported lost or stolen or is damaged in some inadmissable way), plus the cost of making a new one. I vaguely remember there's some shipping costs included in that fee but it's been a few years since I had to renew mine.

I can see that a first-time application might cost more, simply because if they're doing their job properly, all documents have to be carefully checked.

Applying for a Passport online is an absolute piece of cake compared to all the crap required to get an airside pass renewal, needs passport, driving license, downloaded apps and money of course and all in all took about twice as long as my passport renewal X(

You mean you have to pay for the right to work?

Is it tax-deductable?

Claim it back from BA, they used to pay for it directly, but now it’s an expense claim and more form filling ~X(

Did it on line from deepest dark Africa no problem but jolly expensive. I used to have two but the finance officer here refused to allow me to renew two.
