Rocket

#1 Post by Beaufort » Tue Oct 20, 2015 4:13 pm

I've just been pulling up the last of the rocket in the greenhouse and some of the roots are huge. I was wondering if it was possible to perhaps reduce them down and use them in a similar fashion to horseradish?

A quick glimpse through Google implies it is used almost entirely in salad like dishes. There's nothing immediately apparent along the lines you are thinking.

`What was the rule? Taste it, and if you're still alive in ... (how many?) days, it's safe? :)

More seriously, if the green parts are good, the roots can't hurt either?

I've tried 'giggling' this option and nothing immediately came to hand. I must admit my first reaction was if the leaves and flowers are safe to eat then so are the roots. Rocket is a member of the brassica family. I'll try feeding some to SWMBO and take things from there. :D

I do love the fact that Horseradish is so benign until you throw the vinegar on it...

I wonder if there's any more common roots that change so significantly with the addition of something simple like vinegar...
