I knew Charles and counted him and his 2nd wife Jo as friends. We usually shared the same table at SAAFA Johannesburg Branch Lunches.

My wife and I were proud to be invited to attend his investiture as Officer of the Order of Leopold II in 2009.

I was never privy to what exactly he did in The Congo, but at one of his birthday parties, I met a lady who told me that she owed her life to him.
