I see from today's Telegraph that the incumbent Bishop of Gibraltar has died. I can't give a pointer as its behind the pay wall.
I don't suppose that many of you even knew there was such a job, but I once met one.
His full job title is Bishop of Gibraltar in Europe, and as such the then incumbent was the de facto 'Padre' for the RAF Liaison Party at Istres/Orange.
As such, he came to Orange to officiate at the BoB Service Sept 58.
The night before we had our BoB bunfight, and on the Sunday morning we had to clean up and create a 'chapel' for the service in the same premises.
Having cleaned up we felt that we had earned a beer, or two.
When we had filled our table with empty bottles, we moved to another table, at which point the Bish turned up.
Looking at our 'old' table, he commented that we looked as though we'd had a good night last night!
We didn't have the heart to put him right.
Happy Daze. Wasn't it good being young?

I see that the one who's died retired from post in 2013, ian.
The present bishop is a mere youngster, born in 1959, Robert Neil Innes, since 2014 he has been the Bishop in Europe, which now takes in Gibraltar. He is Brussels based. A dean looks after Gibraltar these days.
I would think the Bishop you met would have been Frederick William Thomas Craske, Bishop of Gibraltar from 1953 to 1959. He died in 1971.
He could have been the one responsible for hitching Roger Wholigan of old TOP fame, to his first wife at Gib Cathedral!

Re: Bishop of Gibraltar
The quantity of useless trivia that we on this forum have, never ceases to amaze me!
Being told the name of a guy that I briefly met 59 years ago comes close to the ultimate apex of useless knowledge.

Absolutely essential that you get all the names correct Ian, when you are writing your memoirs.
