Officer training 1944 style

#1 Post by ricardian » Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:37 pm

1944 training film
As the Second World War raged on, maintaining discipline in the Allied ranks was seen as one of the keys to winning the fight against the Nazis. In August 1944, the British Army released a training film to instruct officers on how best to lead their men. With clipped tones and with some tremendous acting it offers an extraordinary glimpse into a military past.

^ Thank you, ricardian, that was absolutely fascinating.

I believe I recognise Sydney Tafler at about 8:30 as the man who couldn't write.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Clearly a faux Glaswegian in that film. You can understand him! :))

Fascinating film and thank you for posting.

I think they should have shown this film to the types in the SADF who would have greeted the men in their command with "Julle 'breakdancers' gaan af kak.."...

No understanding smiles, and plummy English accents from them... =))

I think there are a few other familiar faces from post-War British films as well, but putting names to them is more difficult, especially as they were much younger when this was made!
