#1 Post by CharlieOneSix » Sat Feb 16, 2019 9:25 am

Royal Navy Wessex HU5 XT761 took to the air again yesterday at Historic Helicopters, Chard, Somerset, http://www.historichelicopters.com/ after a restoration programme.

Wonderful to see a grand old lady airborne again!

XT761 post restoration flight video.

Well done all!

You'd think it would never get airborne with the rotors going that slowly......... =))

Just looked up the history of XT761 in Lee Howard's excellent book 'Fleet Air Arm Helicopters Since 1943'.

First flight 3/10/66. She led a fairly routine life of minor incidents until she was airlifted from Yeovilton to Ascension in a Heavylift Belfast on 12/5/82 for the Falklands War. Next time in the UK was when she arrived back at Yeovilton on19/12/83. Total flying hours on allocation at some point to the RN Historic Flight was only 2776.05, and she subsequently was taken on charge by Historic Helicopters after they came into existence in 2013. Until yesterday she hadn't flown since 1986.

Well it certainly worked earlier - I don't have a Facebook account - and now doesn't. I can't find an alternative source to Facebook at the moment....

EDIT:

Belay the last post, it's now on YouTube...
