Well we could do with some young blood here - me and my two mates who are about to cross the bridge from the other place are in our 70's so all we can do is swing the lantern, sup a few beers together and reminisce how much better it was in our day.....and AA can use his skills to keep us on line and on height.

Was Stan Smith still around in your day AA? A bit before your time I suspect. He was a 72 Wessex driver when I met him on a joint RN/RAF Wessex exercise back in mid '66 and again bumped into him at St. Mawgan in around '69/'70. Often wondered what became of him. Real fun guy. We never forgave the 72 guys for stealing our Squadron Uckers Board during that exercise.

C16:

Yes, Stan Smith was a Flt Lt when I was on 33 probably in 1985. I do believe he was the pilot on a 10 ship out of Odiham and left Sgt. J Watson standing by the runway with the chock in his hand and had to break off while going downwind to pick him up. IIRC, the conversation on the intercom was somewhat amusing...

We recently had a new member who goes by the User Name of Wessex. PM him from the members list (Page 5) and invite him along.

Thanks Alison - in fact I invited Wessex to join this merry band! I've known him for 52 years - we started flying training in the RN together. With spinwing now with us and hico-p lurking we'll soon be able to have a Squadron reunion here. In fact next June hico-p has organised just that in henry crun's locality.

Ah - the "A" and lack of it had confused me for a few minutes but it doesn't take much to confuse me nowadays. BTW you can now add your location to your profile - that facility has just been provided.

CharlieOneSix could you let Tees know that we have had problems with validation emails not getting through. I have manually validated his account and all he needs to do is log on with the details he provided at registration.

Excellent avatar - hico-p! That gives me an idea to ask our Australian cartoonist friend if he minds if I scan the one he presented to me back at our grand get together in 2003 and make it into my avatar.

Now, how are we going to get some momentum going here!

Hi Ned and Jim - good to see you on here. Excellent photos as usual Ned - I can only post a few scanned slides and b/w photos from a bygone age and then they are not very good quality.

Well, never seen it in colour before - was in b/w in my day! Gives me an idea to search out a cartoon my MD drew and gave me when I cocked up a trip - no idea where it is as it was almost 30 years ago....

Here's a cropped cut-down version if anybody wants it for an avatar. Might need to copy it to your Desktop and then select it.

ChopperPilot2_cr.jpg

Might need to post if suggestion taken up to save duplication.
