Let's discuss

#1 Post by nomorecatering » Sat May 11, 2019 10:35 pm

Now that it has been established that homophobia and transphobia is a bannable offense here, perhaps we can have a discussion as to why racism, misogyny and general bigotry is not?

Perhaps you could initiate that discussion by defining what you mean by those grossly abused terms.

Or, indeed, what is meant by "here".
Alison has patiently explained that she is responsible for the site under Australian law, so is your question about that?

As to the definition of the terms, it matters not a whit what definition we like, but what the justice system chooses them to mean, this week, and that is an increasing problem worldwide. The Canadian Parliament recently passed a motion condemning Islamophobia, whilst steadfastly refusing to define what Islamophobia was.

Alice through the Looking Glass is relevant here:
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that's all.”

Negative. We are extremely tolerant of just about anything and everything here, except outright extremism. What are not acceptable are personal attacks on the individual.

Atrocious spelling and grammar, are indictable offences.

Are Jammy Dodgers allowed? Once had them in Maun Lodge on the cheese and biscuits board.

Doing some thinking and asking around. Would like to make posts again on the site - but they will be very limited in subject scope.

However I won't make a move unless my old mate Flynverted is reinstated. He got the flick by Admin for simply supporting a banned member...namely me.

If he's allowed back in I'll not say anything more on the subject of me or him in any potential future posts.

Thank you.

Sorry Slasher. Following our "altercation" Fly sent me a number of abusive emails. There is no way I will allow him back on this site. I don't believe he contributed anything worthwhile to our community before he was banned. What you choose to do is entirely your choice.

Slash
I'd like to see you back. I thought that you gave a lot to the forum, and it is a lesser place without you.

Thanks Ian and Cape. I stand by my mates first and foremost. I'll talk to Fly first before I respond.

If you think that mumsnet is tame and boring then you've clearly not been paying attention. If you get them wound up then it's more savage than a Roman gladiatorial contest.

Fly replied saying he sent only one email, the contents of which he forwarded. The name-calling is what got him canned. He should've just said nothing at all.

I have friends in GCHQ and ASIO. They send me copies of all emails that emanate from the site or are related to it. :D
