Just found this site couple of days ago, so just saying Hi

Ex--RAF teleg, achieved the dizzy heights of Corporal, so obviously not aircrew. However, spent some time on Flight Watch in Muharraq (great job, bloody awful place in 1967-68) and some in Cyprus in 1974.
Left after 12yrs and joined Shell working initially in the Telex room and when that closed moved to Shell IT. Made redundant/early retirement at 55 so full pension (probably as good as it gets).

So, all-in-all, no complaints; only ever had two jobs and never out of work.

Welcome Geordie - a near neighbour! I'm just down the road, west of Stonehaven.

My youngest son was born in RAFH Akrotiri but seems the Turks took exception and invaded. He was only a few days old when evacuated. Still, that early VC10 flight must have made an impression as he is into air racing now.

I should have had 'shire in my location as I live in Portlethen. Still, the way things are going, it will soon be part of Aberdeen.

Welcome to Ops-Normal Geordie. Our paths must have crossed. I was in Muckrack end of '65 to get equipped with KD. Then on to Sharjah and other places down that way, for a year. Returning to Muckrack in February '67, enroute Changi and places East.

God did Muckrack smell when the tide went out and all the sewage used to steam in the midday sun. First day there woken by a cannon being fired to alert locals to start of the day during Ramadan. Fresh out of the UK, scared the sh1ts out of me. Happy daze's.

Thanks, Alison. Yeah, it was a sh1thole in the literal sense. Still, as I was told, good place for a first posting as everywhere else would seem good. As it was followed with AFCENT and a curtailed posting to Cyprus, could be true.

I was about to ask when you two met.

Welcome here and please feel as much as I felt welcome in Geordie land in mid 90s.
