It is suggested that I post here.

Long term lurker who decided to join when I knew the railway station was Liege. My ipad wouldn't let me take anything out of the nav bag and I gave up.

When the "two maids of Biddenden" was posted (I once owned the Oast opposite the Three Chimneys pub) I tried again on the desktop and here I am.

Been banned from TOP, a mere amateur as it only happened once, for about a month.

Retired BA captain (VC10, ANZ DC10, 748 Scotland, DC10, after we took over BCal, and finally the A319/20).

74 years old and now live about 40km NE of Helsinki in the middle of a forest with my Finnish wife.

My dear chap, welcome aboard from me and 'er (Mrs Ex-Ascot) in Bots. Many of us here have been banned from TOP, most of us consider it an honour. We have a very understanding and long suffering boss here and you can get away with most things apart from attacking other members.

For the record we are surviving here, during the current booze ban, on the Finnish hooch 'kilju'.

I think that we now only have two VC10 drivers here :-bd

It will be very exotic to have a Helsinki correspondent, especially one acquainted with the 748.
Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see another A320 family aircraft. I see you might wake up tango15's memories.

Welcome, talmacapt. As a one-time salesman for the venerable 748, you'll do for me! Many a pleasant to trip to Helsinki and occasionally Rovaniemi (shivers) and a fan of all things Finnish, including Lapin Kulta! :))

t15 a question what was easier to cope cold in former USSR or the hot and humid weather in South America?

And it's welcome from me also. Being banned from TOP is indeed considered an honour here so much so that it is almost mandatory!

Hot and humid I can deal with - even with a suit on, but the snows and the cold of northern Siberia in mid-May were definitely more difficult!

Thanks Ex-A. Understanding and suffering, perhaps. Exile from TOP, most definitely. Welcome Tal, enjoy.

My wife was born in Rovaniemi and we visit several times per year. She has two daughters and grandchildren who live in Ivalo, another 300km north of Rovaniemi. It can be quite cold there, -42 was the coldest I have experienced.

Here, down south, it was -28 for several days last winter. The lowest temperature I've seen here is -37.

Can be a challenge putting the rubbish out!!

ExA

I had to look up kilju as I had not heard of it. I know people who make it but hadn't realised that is what it is called.

I thought someone may have been pulling your leg as kilju is pronounced "kill you" in Finnish.

At least your rubbish won't rot in the winter. We look forward to your weather reports. The eclectic bunch here means we get interesting news from around the World that our local media does not tell us about.
Sadly we lost our Canadian and Thai correspondents and, as far as I know, don't have any in South or Central America.
You don't have to be crazy here, but it helps

Welcome - self imposed exile here didn't like the manner.

Think there is a infrequent poster with a location of Brazil which, of course, may or may not be where he is.

G'day Talma,

I pop into Finland reasonably often although I haven't been to Rovaniemi yet. Plenty of time. I think the furthest north I have been in Levi.
One of my colleagues is Finnish. :D

Welcome Talma!, Not been to Rovaniemi, but have spent some time in Levi / Kittila, and several times into Helsinki.

My Wife & I love it there, a long way from here in Sunny Hot & Humid South East Queensland. I can just imagine the beauty of a Finnish Forest 40 clicks from HEL!. I've recently joined a different gym simply because they have a Sauna!....but no one here knows the meaning of 'lÖyly'...... :)

Welcome talma! There are some of us down here in NZ - two (I think) from the North Island and two from the South. 'ANZ DC10' was that based down here or have I missed something about mainline BA?

I visited Oulu as a cadet in 1966 - we all got bitten to death by mossies. Met a nice girl but discovered she was only 15 when I walked her home. At least that may have been her excuse... :))
