Just joined

Hello everyone. Just retired as an engineer, had enough of being dicked around by rubbish employers over the last few years, sold up in the UK and have just settled in Norway (I'm a Brit, my wife's Norwegian).

Welcome Jimmy
Engineering must be well paid if you can afford Norway :D

We were just lucky and inherited a house that belonged to my wife's family. I could retire a little early and invest the proceeds from the sale of our UK home (much to the disgust of our children who thought they were getting it!).

Prices here are mixed, some things (beer!) are very expensive but other things are not so bad. I am just getting started with home brew. There is a thriving home brew community here, most people I have met here so far brew their own, perhaps not surprising given the prices! I have already met one farmer that has a large scale brewhouse and also a still. Our village has a home brew club, that has about 50 regular members which is most of the men in the village!

Welcome Jimmy from both of us here in Botswana. Pretty friendly bunch here. Just don't read the thread on site funding gives a bad image. Hope you report on life up there every day on TRABB.

Another engineer, that's good because we are rather outnumbered. Welcome.

Thanks for the very warm welcome. I was civil, an LAC, but my interests now as far as aviation goes is gliding. Not been able to find a club near to us yet, which was a part of the reason for joining here.

I've been asked to pay a subscription to stay, but having had a look around here I'm afraid there's not much relating to gliding, so I'll pass on subscribing and continue my hunt for a gliding club elsewhere. Not sure I want to get embroiled with contentious topics around cost cutting and the impact on safety, either, yet fear that is exactly where I'd end up here if I stayed!!!

Thanks again, cheerio and best regards to all those still struggling on in the industry,

Jimmy

OK Jim, that's fine. You can still 'read' all but members' posts.

I assume that's 'goodbye' to Ribrash as well, then?
