No Mods and Few Rules

Written this elsewhere but felt it worthwhile to post here as well.

I am not planning on having any Mods and very few rules of engagement, but I will be implementing a Karma system on which everyone has a say. If members like a posting they can award good Karma points, and vice versa. If a member goes into negative territory too often then ......

Like to feel we are all mature enough to cope with that.

How are these "Karma points" awarded? Is there some kind of "Like/Don't Like" button like on Facebook?

Although hopefully it will never happen, may I plead for:
- clear and concise reasons for being banned/suspended/whatever, and a finite period during which the offending poster can sit at home and learn his lesson.
- avoidance of insults when banned. Being called an "arrogant old tosser" and a "bleating sleazebag" isn't nice.
(Not that I expect anything other than politeness on this site !)

The only reason I set this site up was so I could give all the people I have come to hate a hard time.

<mad cackle>

Seriously though I've learnt the importance of these forums to many who may feel isolated from the kind of people they associated with during their working careers. I know for a fact that there is a real danger that my brain will turn to mush if I have to spend the rest of my life where the sole topic of conversation is grand children and cake recipes.

The only reason anyone will ever get banned from Pproone is if I get a minimum of half a dozen requests to do so from members whose opinions I respect. There will be multiple warnings by PM requesting the perpetrator to cease and desist before hand. That I promise.

Who are the "Global Moderators" then?

Control Tower has just volunteered. I felt it necessary to have someone who was in a totally different time zone to myself to keep an eye on proceedings when I is having a kip. Essentially he has just a watching brief.

No, indeed

However, I'd like to nick that for another bored I frequent if you don't mind...

Alison:

Re: the Karma system.

It was my experience with such things that the system is easily abused and people group into "cartels" in order to control the fate of those they don't like.

OFSO:

I consider being called an "arrogant old tosser" something of a positive... Each to their own I suppose... ;)

Thanks for that AA. Since contemplating a Karma system have discovered that there are significant problems with the extension to the forum software, so won't be using it. Working on the theory that everyone here is a mature consenting adult, and if you don't give people a hard time they won't give you one back. Trying for a very relaxed and happy environment here.

Anyway welcome to our place.

Nah, we don't need no cotton-pickin' karma.

With a bunch as stroppy as this lot, they'll sort themselves out. I'd be surprised if there were any real NEED for banning/blocking etc (apart from spammers, who probably won't get in anyway). It will be a pleasant difference to know that some words that mustn't be typed elsewhere won't raise an eyebrow here. Yes, I can say Ryanair and Etihad and pogrom in the same sente

I've been a member of another forum that has no moderation, since its foundation almost 10 years ago. In that time, there has been only one banning, for repeated personal abuse in PMs, (or PMS, possibly). There's a wide range of views on most subjects, and considerable robust debate, but everyone seems to play much more nicely than those on the moderated forum that spawned it.

Well, sure - if limits are imposed, it triggers temptations to test them L-)

Yeah. :ymdevil:

Nah... I've been responsible so far since joining this forum.

That reminds me...I've wanted to ask Admin how come all
of me posted vids only show the URL and no screen thingy?
You scared I'm gonna post in-yer-face hard core porn? :-?

I haven't and I won't! [-(

'Cos you don't do them proper like what you are supposed to do.

This is how we do it here.

Confused. This has just appeared as a header. Is it purely directed at me or is it a more general warning?
