If someone is posting the same in more than one sub-forum that is just wasteful on server space and the problem with 'multiple threads' is that it dilutes the topic, and no-one is sure which thread to post on! I think it is a common policy. It then increases the moderating load as threads are either merged or deleted.

For example we have two threads running on the Turkish 'shoot-down' - which to post on?

Seems entirely reasonable. I vote for Boac as a moderator here... (damn Yay this site doesn't have a thumbs up emoticon)! Image

Yes it does. :-BD

Scroll down to the text "View more smilies" in the right hand sidebar and click on it. And then on page 10 there is a thumbs up emoticon.

Perhaps add aviation-The juice that once fueled the aviation industry. Capture those google searches

While I like the second part, it does suggest this might be a site for oil-field workers. :)

Perhaps something along the lines of "A site for those who work in aviation and those who just love to fly" or "News, views, and information on everything aviation"

or summat like that.

if one thread title starts with WOW, I'd expect it to be more emotional and rumours, and if it's technical terms, then it's more about facts and theories?

P.S a pic search for any titles is a good idea, too, to avoid the unwanted (don't remember any more which innocent word lead me to Thai massage, for example).
P.P.S I liked the previous text more (than the news, views etc.)

Since I started the WOW thread, I wondered whether to put it in the Military thread but
since it was mainstream media, I put it in JB.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that it was more " more emotional and rumours,", although
often JB threads are like that. As it is, thanks to Fox3, it had some very good technical
discussion in it. I did notice that on the other place, they had at least 3 threads on it
and R&N seems to have more and more military threads now.

Re the WOW, that was because I considered it a big thing that a NATO country shot down
a Russian jet.

As to whether they should be merged and where does the one thread end up,
I'll leave it to others to decide.

well, it was just an example, 500N, nothing personal - and I haven't had time to read anything much these days, so maybe it wasn't a good example, just one that I remembered.
Besides, it was a reflection on how to organise purely technical stuff so that it would be easily findable for those who do not like banter and 'emotional' (I do, anyway).

Sorry, I should have put I didn't take it as personal, far from it. In fact, I thought it was a very good example
to choose as it shows the dilemma very well and one worthy of discussion.

I was hoping for some comments on my proposed titles and layout for the Aviation section on http://www.av-gas.net . If it's acceptable then I would look at gradually modifying ppruned.org and moving current topics that fit to their new homes. When done migrate the whole site to it's new domain name.

Need some people to say yay or nay. Suggestions also welcomed.

Are we supposed to log in to have a look? I tried to, but no luck. The front page, IMHO, still needs to have aviation in the title somewhere

Like the tag 'the juice that once fueled the industry, and the people who make it all happen' but why only on l in fuelled? Is this another example of Americanisms creeping into 'our' language? :D. No big deal if that is the accepted industry and Australian spelling.
