Got a Plan

#1 Post by admin » Thu Dec 17, 2015 9:25 am

First pass at a plan is based on two important premises.

1) Alison doesn't do Christmas's - guaranteed
2) Over the Christmas break most members will be non compos mentis due the fumes from their Christmas pud.

So the plan is to migrate the site to it's new name of http://www.ops-normal.org over the Boxing Day weekend.

As happened the last time we migrated to a new domain name, it is important to check that your email address is valid as automatic logons via embedded cookies will no longer work with the changeover. Your email address will need to be correct should you have to request a new password. As per previous I will be available via the "Contact" email button to effect a change if anyone does need a new password and doesn't get an email.

Having migrated us to the new name, I will then add all the new aviation forums, and over the week to the New Year move as many of the aviation-related topics to their new homes. Hopefully this will enable me to populate as many of the new forums as possible. Forums with no postings always look tacky.

As always thoughts, suggestions and opinions are earnestly sought on the above. :-ss

Alison

PS. Edited to add: Desperately need a logo and slogan for our new site. Please pretty pleeze, will someone give it some thought.

- a thought/opinion only, Alison - and that is that we are EXTREMELY grateful for what you have done/are doing.

The migration plans sound fine, and apart from rgb's Muslim friends......., most of us will be celebrating the Christian festival of Christmas (if not working, of course) - and probably in somewhat of an "8/8 below 100' " :))

I hope you find time to enjoy yourself.

Sounds good! As for doing Christmas; Depends on your definition of 'doing.' :-?

And what Christmas really means to you.

And I shall leave it there.

Thanks Alison for all your hard work! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: ^:)^ ^:)^

Thanks for all the hard work Alison - I have an old Navy mate who lives in Perth WA and is a superb cartoonist. No promises as he is in very poor health but I'll contact him and see if he can think up a logo. He uses computers for his work nowadays so it would probably come as a jpeg.

As an atheist I don't mind Xmas celebrations. Xmas lunches are nice to attend and that 'family' feeling. I and the ex used to go sometimes to the poorest sh!ttiest Thai orphanage we could find and bring plenty of nice Crissy grub to kids who otherwise would've gone hungry like they do every other day - plus some toys for everybody.

I'm no do-gooder but its the only day of the year I give a practical sh!t about people...and in my case its disowned wretched kids who are ignored by the locals and hoped they'd just go away and die.

I wouldn't write Xmas off as just crap IMO.

Yes, and the User Name. But the "Remember me" cookie won't as they are tied to the domain name.

Sounds fine, I guess. Not getting why another new name but why not, although it sounds somewhat obscure?
And thanks for a great site, whatever the name, again.

appreciate your efforts, I'm sure that we will contribute to a very successful site, many thanks Alison for your dedication, I suspect most of us wouldn't know where to start with setting up something like this, far less have the resolve to continue to design the whole thing and improve the site in this way

I wrote on the other related topic:
It would be nice to have our site stand on it's own feet, not just as a mutinous rebellion from TOP. For that we need a new domain name.

We is getting quite growed up now, and some believe we need our own name.

I agree with the getting away from the rebellion origins.
Thanks for all the hard work Alison. It is much appreciated.

Alison re my post #7 I don't seem to be able to include a jpg in a pm or email to you so in the absence of ideas from elsewhere here's a suggested logo from my mate in Perth. It has the website name, the aviation theme, a lighthearted approach and what looks like a walking stick for the more mature audience(!)
Ops Normal.jpg
Ops Normal.jpg (32.3 KiB) Viewed 2637 times

He says:

Hi xxxxx,
Here's take one which of course may not be suitable in certain respects but do feel free to suggest alternatives (eg. type of aircraft colours etc etc) and let me have some idea of what you are visualising and I'll see what I can do.
Yours aye
Ron

So what do you think? If you'd rather do away with the prop and hang an turbine engine under the wing then that shouldn't be a problem. Bear in mind that Ron is a cartoonist rather than a logo designer. Do say if this isn't the kind of thing you had in mind - Ron won't be offended!
