Any minute now. But will we know who it was?

I left the Steel River and headed south in search of fame and fortune at the age of 16. Since then my speech has morphed into a mixture of all the places I have been and, although folks can tell I'm from somewhere north of Enfield, it's not obvious exactly from where.

This morning on BBC's Breakfast, Steph McGovern was presenting a section on the woes of Redcar's steel works. She interviewed three steel men and Missus asked me a question about one of the clips. I replied and was astonished that I came out in pure "Smoggy" - just a few seconds of exposure and I was away back in the tongue of my childhood. Now, obviously when one heads home to the land of my fathers, one is immersed in the experience, yakking with people who've never left the town, but how is it that a few seconds can turn back the years so firmly? There's more to this business of local accents than meets the eye, I think.

Incidentally, Steph, who is a Smoggy lass herself, was wearing a parka with the logo of Dorman Long on the left breast. Dorman Long is the Teesside steel company that designed and built the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bits were manufactured in Middlesbrough and Stockton and shipped down for some Orstralians to bolt together. I reckon that these days, when boys no longer play with Meccano sets, there wouldn't be anyone with the skills to do it again.

Oh dear Ibbie the farce continues.

Sure does TB. This is the latest ploy in having people believe that son's ex wife's partner is the children's actual father. So happens she posted individual photos of the children with their "father" on the book of farce yesterday. Also trying to get school office staff use to the children's "father's" voice by the telephone scam. Fortunately the school are now aware.

I had cause to go to the Llanwern (?) steelworks once. It was a case of, "I don't know what you're paid, but it's not enough." Respect. And really nice folk as well. Edited to add I assume it has been closed?
Ibbie - preaching to the converted etc, but you are noting all these wind-ups for future use aren't you? Oh, and sorry you drew us in the Capital Cup but you're going to need to concentrate on the league.

A strange day weather wise. Rain from clear blue skies, sun from black clouds.
Tint normal stuff up here.

Still, we managed to get a good walk in today without getting too wet. As we're leaving on the morn the fridge is bare and so is my tum.
I think I may have to persuade t'other half that if a slice of cow's bum doesn't enter into a symbiotic relationship with my good self then I may take to eating my walking boots.
The pub at the bottom of the road does nice steaks which I shall suggest is a good alternative to walking barefoot.

Oh sorry Ibbie, all you northern clubs look alike to me!! :ymdevil:

And re your son's kids, I can't wait to get your account of when that revenge is served!

That said, we must never forget (and I know you haven't) that there are two young lives in the middle of all this.

ibbie,

Mythos was very decent product when launched back in 1997. I don't know why they change it. It has change indeed.

On the subject of Jabberwocky, does anyone else remember a recording by a band called Boeing Duveen and the Beautiful Soup? About 1968/9, they set the poem to music. I heard it on the John Peel show one Sunday afternoon, when I used to record the show by holding the microphone of my Fidelity reel-to-reel tape recorder up to the loudspeaker of an old bakelite valve radio. Happy days.

Sorry to hear Mythos has gone down the pan. I have a rather nice tall glass with a handle courtesy of Mr Mythos.

Ibbie The judiciary won't like the latest shenanigans but I presume the primary hearing will be concerned with the international proceedings.

Morning folks. We just can't drink Mythos it upsets our stomachs.

Sitting by the pool before dawn with a mug of tea thinking what needs doing on the estate. After the sun came up I saw a huge tree down. 50' high (long now) you can't get your arms around the trunk. Got a work force and chain saw organised for tomorrow. Right across the fence as well.

Pity you're not a big fan of chisa nyama, Mr Ascot. Guess it'll have to go into the donkey boiler for Frau Ascot's ablutions.
