[font=Courier New][font=Times New Roman]Memorial events marking the 76th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow will take place today, Wednesday.
A service will be held at the garden of remembrance at Scapa this morning, before the laying of wreaths over the final resting place of the ship below the cliffs at Gaitnip.
The Royal Oak was torpedoed by a German submarine in the early hours of October 14, 1939.
Of the ship’s complement of 1,234 men and boys, 834 were killed that night, or died later of their wounds.
This year the commemorations will be particularly poignant following the passing of Kenneth Toop, one of the few remaining survivors of the Royal Oak, earlier this year.[/font][/font]

The traditional way of serving smoked haddock is wi a poached egg on top,me old Aunt Maisie served it that way went we went to hers for our tea on a Saturday, she were posh compared to us, cant say I liked it,I like smoked haddock and I like poached eggs but not on the same plate,still I ate it,one simply did not not eat anything Aunt Maise placed before one.

Boring snippet alert; I will be driving hubs truck today as he is off to see eldest daughter in Mississippi and he is taking my car. It's a better ride. He did, however, clean out the inside of his truck as usually it is a bio hazard in there. I hate driving the thing. Fortunately it is a short drive for me.

L/B No 5 Engineer (aka SWMBO) is now on the mend - one can tell, cos though lowly in rank she be startin' to give one orders again

To retain qualif….. (right) to drive L/B No5 one has had to apply for one's 70+ Licence. They gummit be crafty (naughty word, plural) cos they do make one apply separate for light lorry/minibus, what they does call C1 and D1 class, if one don't notice this then they automa…(straight away) restrict one to drink a car. That do also require that a doc do certif…(say) that one be fit. One don't do doctors but when t' devil calls an' all that. Anyway, after commenting on my lack o' medic…. (sick) history, he dun say that I be OK. One did get out o' there fast

Made posh kedgeree once with hot-smoked salmon and boiled quails' eggs with a langoustine on top. Very nice, but too much faffing around. Peeling boiled quails' eggs removes your will to live.

If you can get it, try smoked snoek for the kedgeree instead of haddock. Very tasty.

Got an idea for a good home made burger patty, dab of mustard, slice of tomato and a slice of cheese sealed in a thin layer of raw bread dough then deep fried. One will give all these things a go once home from the sandpit.

Kippers are, to all intents and purposes, verboten chez moi. (One sentence, 3 languages! Cool!) MrsP doesn't like the smell of grilled or fried kippers, so I have to buy boil-in-the-bag, or shove them in a jug with boiling water.

Perhaps infecting Mrs P with a touch of the galloping snots to befuddle the sense of smell before your succumbing to the kipper lust would solve the problem.

Snoek in kedgeree would be very fiddly, too many bl**dy bones. But is does taste nice.
