Oh dear! One hopes that Mr Beaufort's puffin-cam will not become redundant

Our local colony has had a good season. The effects of the sea bird wreck last year won't become noticeable in terms of numbers for potentially a few years ahead.

I guess you were charged for the privilege to use such an expensive source of information rather than the information per se.

Holding thumbs for you. A great experience.

I won a raffle to buy 2 tickets for the 1995 event at Ellis Park. I suddenly had lots of friends.

I had one of my periodical sessions with bronchitis and told my Doc that if he fixed me up to get to the event, I'd let him have the ticket!

A grand day out :)

Some years ago I had a problem with the solicitor dealing with a will. As luck would have it, the Consumers Association magazine, Which?, wanted information from people who had had difficulties in such circumstances, so I was more than happy to supply the necessary data. This certainly seemed to stir them into some action (including the senior partner phoning me to ask if I would consider getting Which to cancel the article - no way!!)

A simple question for folks that know about these things.

Can shares in a UK company be sold/traded/transferred on a Saturday even if it is done as a private sale?

Just watching olives being harvested by the good old time honoured method of giving the trees a good thrashing with a big stick.

According to a prof I had at the high school, originated from an area with enormous tradition in olive oil, that methods guarantees olive production every other year.

Olive picking techniques vary depending on region and type of olive. On Amorgos they traditionally combed the olives off the branches. On Crete they put sheets under the trees and let them fall off and then use sticks to knock the last ones off. Now a days they use special strimmers to knock them off. RIS was right in that a good harvest tends to be every other year with the tree resting in between. :D

Good morningish. Went to a birthday party last night, and although didn't consume much fall over liquids, didn't get in until 0330. Had an extra hour in bed, loads of emails and just seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Evening. Dark and trying to drizzle here. Been busy all day, just sitting down now. Have shoved a Marks and Sparks beef in Yorkshire Pud in the oven as can't be arsed to do anything else.

Here's a lawyerly answer for you. Yes and no! Legally it's like visiting the loo -- the job isn't finished until the paperwork is done (I'm here all week folks).

In the old days (IE when I started in the City) you could rely on dictum meum pactum (my word is my bond) but Big Bang put a stop to all that nonsense.

If something goes wrong you could be left in the lurch. If you trust your counterparty then it should be okay. Only you can judge that.

Well done Wodders, I like to think Trabbforce had a role to play in both events.

I will also back senior management here. Open a bottle, sit down and relax!

Angels,

Thank you for that masterly answer. My question was generated by some fascinating goings-on over on another forum where some shares in a company, and held by a charity, were sold on the same day (a Saturday) as the charity's AGM at which, the buyer of the shares (who is a director of the company concerned) was appointed as a trustee of the charity but nothing was declared about the deal at the AGM - intriguing stuff!

4ma - definitely something suss there as directors' shareholdings' are considered sensitive (and reportable) information anyway. If the company is a PLC he'll be in trouble, but elsewhere the letter of the law is, ahem, sidesteppable I suppose is a word for it. As for the charity not sure what their M&A says but the deal reeks as far as I'm concerned.

It's been years since I had anything to do with company law but my guess is not much has changed.
