Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Was once told by an electrician not to switch on a vacuum cleaner whilst the lead was still coilled. Never have, but follow the coiling and throwing over the handle protocol. Easier.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
My Dad who was an electrician told me something similar. He said the coil of wire could become a resistance or some such thing.ExSp33db1rd wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:31 amWas once told by an electrician not to switch on a vacuum cleaner whilst the lead was still coilled. Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Son in Law, not long married had his washing machine etc set up in the quarters garage. Natural the single socket was in the wrong place. No problem, got a long extension lead and plugged everything in.
A while later, being helpful, I picked up the coiled cable. The coil was fused together with the melted insulation. I can't remember after this time of it had failed too.
The deadliest 'tool' is the 4-plug extension reel.

I purchased an expensive annual multi-trip travel insurance policy last week (about £500).
This morning, I received an email from the same company :
I am on the 'phone to them now to see what they say.
EDIT : Somewhat to my surprise, they matched the offer without me even having to insist. I think that is very fair and admirable.
Coincidentally I had seen this earlier today :

This really annoys me when a company offers better conditions to new customers than existing ones. I know it's common business practice but that doesn't legitimise it.Are you still looking for travel insurance to cover your upcoming winter getaway? In case you still need convincing, we are giving you the chance to save 20% off your policy until the end of October!‡
As an added bonus, any policies purchased using the discount code OCT20MS over the phone or online, will be entered into our free prize draw for a chance to win £150 worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers!**

The Central Bank plans to look into the practice by some insurers of charging existing customers higher rates than new clients, in order to see whether insurance companies are adhering to the regulator’s consumer protection code, .........

I would really love all and I mean ALL lnsurance companies and any type of insurance policy to be banned Worldwide. The only people who benefit are the insurance companies. Lets face it, any insurance claim made you can guarantee that the insurance company will wriggle and worm their way way out of coughing up. Live here in Africa and if your car or house get trashed make sure you have enough dosh in your bank account to make good the damage. I'm sure it will cost less in the long run. How come no one has come up with the idea that compulsory insurance is against human rights etc etc....

Never wind a 25m long mains lead around a Dachshund with a full stomach, and use the lead to power an angle grinder. You Have Been Warned !

YES YES YES It takes the same effort to open the dishwasher door and put stuff inside. So why does my dear wife put used cups glasses and plates and knives and forks.....in the SINK ?

Mrs PN, before going out, and on many occasions, lays her clothes out on the bed, usually on my side.

If it is a full size dishwasher it is more complicated and tiring to open the door, bend down pull out the two trays for glasses and plates load them carefully to either maximize the load capacity or the safety of the dishes... In RiS's PA residence, RiS used / was allowed to do it; nowadays RiS's PA does it himself.

RiS, it is a pain having to sort out the sink load. Our DW has a separate cutlery tray. Each time you come upon a knife or plate or cup you are shuffling trays back and fore.

A coiled extension lead is a larger version of a one-bar electric fire and if sufficient current is drawn it will heat upExSp33db1rd wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:31 amWas once told by an electrician not to switch on a vacuum cleaner whilst the lead was still coilled. PN, How accessible is the cutlery tray in the family's dishwasher (RIS's dad and sister ) that tray is at the very front and unless you load an entire set it is too easy. However RiS's SOP is to clean every dirty kitchen utensil as soon as it enters the sink. However a common issue here is the effort required to empty either the dishwasher or the drying rack next to the sink.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:51 pmRiS, it is a pain having to sort out the sink load. Personally I find dish washers more labour intensive than just bunging the stuff in the kitchen sink and washing it, putting it on the drainer and putting it away once dry. But I'm an old fashioned gal.
