An important competition took place in this village in the 1800s

Would that be the competition that involved one Mr Robert Stephenson?

St Ann's, Rainhill possibly?

Thought that would give it away. Parents married there, I was baptized there. Grandparents and Great Uncle and Aunt buried there.

All yours 4M.

Ah, Rainhill - not a million miles from where I was dragged up, Ex-A. Famous only in our family as the place where one of my aunties was resident for some time and as a place where my mother said she too would end up when I annoyed her! :ymblushing:

No takers? It's a very quiet canal and quite romantic.

Presumably on the Trent and Mersey, which I've walked, but I was too young at the time to go into pubs, so naturally none of us did!

Another clue before bed-time:

It's been a while since a narrow boat was moored here.
