The NSW Government would love to do that and has been setting it up to be sold for years.

I've been out of the water industry for a few years, but still keep a finger on the pulse. Things are happening, though, that I can't find out about. For example, historically, all the streamflow data in the state was available either for free, or the cost of extraction. About 30 years ago, it became possible to buy a CD with all the data on it, with a new CD published every year, and programs to carry out standard analyses included. Then, it all became available on line. Not now, though. You can obtain some basic data and some pre-computed analyses from the BoM site, but if you want to do some different analyses, good luck. A colleague, formerly close to the top of the water authority, was 'blacklisted' after being given some data that they didn't want him to have. If a government is hiding something, you can bet something underhand is happening.
