Sorry for your problems Goblin and I hope the silver lining isn't far away. My commiserations to all who are affected at this sad time.

Somewhat late on parade, but condolences also from me, TGG.

Ex-A if I said I understand our exchange I would be lying. I am hugely impressed by your capacity to wear a winter pull over in a Mediterranean summer.

Ended up with six appliances, numerous Protection Civil chaps, Local Police, Guarda Civil two Helibombers and two single engined bombers one loaded with retardant and one just looked like water. mostly working out of my sight

Regrettably one of the Helibombers returned sans bucket but fitted with a stretcher, loaded out of sight and after lift set off to my East.
My money being on Granada.

Morning. Hope fires are out. I woke at five am when Mme went down to her studio to work on paintings, due today, then back to sleep until just before eight am. Unprecedented. Paintings signed and varnished by eight thirty. Will be at the stately home by midday. Opening tomorrow. But before then, another event elsewhere tonight that she arranged.

I really like that painting OFSO...

Here I am back from the gym, an increasingly old and knackered man, covered in sweat, but full of hope, unlike our younger house guest who has disappeared in despair to her bed. We will let her be and let time be the healer, poor girl.

Today will be feet up.

Bottom of screen states 26c at present. Clear blue sky.

Still no sign of our lodger. T has taken up a glass of orange juice. We have to pull her out of this gloom spiral. I can now hear footsteps upstairs.

Reminded her of that great seaman Melville's aphorism: "Life's a voyage that's homeward bound".

I'd have said "...... always homeward bound.... " and as a believer, thank goodness it is.

Currently very worried about T's niece who has gone back to the family home but who has just sent a very disturbing message to a family friend, who called us. We are ringing around to ensure she is kept under observation, one way or the other for the next few days. It never rains but it pours!

On a brighter note I have just been watching a Spitfire doing a photo shoot with a Jet Ranger near North Weald.

That would be very troubling, TGG.
I hope the right combination will be found of helpful and comforting people to support the niece, and practical things to be done, to assuage her natural great grief and distress.
A prayer across the miles, and kind thoughts.

You, TGG, are both to be thanked for trying to install some light into the darkness that has befallen T's niece. A wish for her not to dwell too long in the darkness.

Hey you lot up North, are you sure you are not finished with that big, bright yellow sky thing, as we down South would like it back as soon as possible, these mornings of minus one
or two degrees C are starting to wear a bit thin. It is just not right for big Bronze Aussies to be seen shivering, it is starting to destroy our image! =))

^ In a Jed Clampett drawl: "Pitiful, jes' pitiful" temperatures here today.
Currently 6°C, feels like 3°C so they say; stormy overcast, cold wind and rain at times; have heat-pump running plus a heater in the dining-room and one in the entry-hall.
Oh well, seasonable I guess.

You may have it back.
However, you must promise that there will be no bitching when you are sweltering, with everything dried out and ready to burn.
Fair enough?

Thanks for the advice and good wishes RiS, Karearea and bob2s. The young lady was visited by my better half at the nieces' family home last night, she is Ok but barely functional, and like Greta Garbo, "wants to be alone" but was told in a firm and loving way that if we hear about messages like the one heard about yesterday, she definitely won't be allowed to be alone at all!

Unlike her response to her mom's untimely and sad death last year, where she rose to the occasion, and despite everything, handled the funeral, probate etc. this time she is suffused with guilt and regret! She and her father are/were very similar and didn't appear to get on very well in life (as is often the case with similar personalities) and now she regrets all that. Human psychology is very complex. I suspect we may need to find some sort of grief counsellor or psychologist.

When all is said and done, their family have lost all their senior patriarchal and matriarchal figures in the space of two years (the last two in the space of two months), and as I pointed out to Tina, over a cup of tea last night, she/we are now it (the young lady does have an older sister but she is in Australia), which comes as a bit of shock to both our systems.

T is taking the day out today to be available as needed (hopefully not) and I am heading off to Headcorn for the morning to commit some egg whiskery.

Weather is set fair, little wind.

Morning, all. I'm sure your dealing with family deaths and tragedies is as competent as your dealing with things with rotating wings on top, although the latter doubtless gives more pleasure. Have a nice day, everyone.

I'm dealing with after effects of cheese and flamenco do last night. Cheese upset my stomach and as ever flamenco sounded like effects of diarrhea and a locked wc door.
Finally had to shut the gate to the street as too many trying to get in.
