Which English Do You Speak?

#1 Post by Karearea » Tue Jan 26, 2016 8:36 pm

An interesting quiz here:

http://www.gameswithwords.org/WhichEnglish/

For the record, it guessed my native language as English, or Hungarian or Finnish.
Its top guesses for my dialects were English, Scottish, and Welsh.
My great-grandparents from England and Scotland came to New Zealand in the 1870s, so I think the results show the power of ancestral dialects and idioms continuing over generations.
Exposure to modern mass media may alter that nowadays.

When asked for my age, one of the options was 0

I'm tempted (no I am not) to re-run it putting in in zero as my age.

The awful conclusion of this quiz was that I am English and that my first language is English... Now while it is true that I live in England and my first language is now English...!

Rubbish site!

There ain't no such game as SOCCER!

I've lived in several countries for more than 6 months, but it only let me enter one.

Ian, I was able to enter multiple countries in which I had lived for more than 6 months.

I was quite impressed with the results, although answering that "she'll be right" is correct is a bit of a giveaway as to my dialect.
