Took my bike out for a run earlier. ;)
Used the route used by an Uncle some sixty years ago to get from Nottingham to Manchester - The Via Gellia, I believe. Have memories of hanging on to his belt whilst riding pillon on his motorbike. Little in the way of helmets, leathers or gloves, but fun all the same. The snowflake generation would have dissolved the first two miles into the trip.

One didn't have to travel very fast to get cold & wet in UK.

I used to ride from RAF Dishforth to Redcar, and return, over the Cleveland Hills in Jan/Feb on a 50cc Mobylette.

Nice kit Stu, I still wear jeans and a waxed jacket, will have a run on Sunday if it is dry, take the Triumph for an airing, had the Enfield out last week, got its first MOT next week.
The BSA will not need anymore MOTs under the new proposed regs, it is 1964 and they are planning to change the threshold to 1970, the tax is free, so a pretty cheap bike.

Going up the hills was a flog, coming down was 'exhilarating'!

My brakes were exactly the same as a Raleigh bicycle.

Stu, it is the BSAC15 Star

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSA_C15

The bike proved to need careful maintenance, being prone to oil leaks, electrical faults, gearbox problems, valve-gear failures, a weak big-end, and clutch adjustment problems

I can vouch for all of that.

Ian, Stu, my first bike was a Fanny B, painted in an army green/khaki colour. Dad bought it from the Army Navy Stores, and got it licensed for civilian road use. Think it was two stroke, but can't be sure.

I DREAM of free tax !

All vehicles in NZ over about 3 years old ( not sure of the exact age) need the equivalent of the UK MoT every 6 months, so with 2 cars, a bike and a trailer I'm at the garage 90% of my life ( slight exxageration of course but it certainly feels like it. ) and .... we have a nationwide Accident Compensation Scheme funded partly by a percentage of the annual registration fee, which is why insurance of any sort, not even 3rd party, is not compulsory, one can even claim from ACC if you fall off your own ladder, and it covers foreign visitors, too, but .... the ACC recently decreed that motor bike accidents are the biggest drain on their finances, so .... I now pay around $130 p.a. for esch cars, but over $450 for my modest bike.

Fully comp classic bike insurence for the BSA is about £75 per annum, including breakdown recovery and legal aid, the Enfield added on to the policy for a further £30 or so.
Triumph is about £160 or so.

Honda CBX 400 cc ( 4 cyl) 1986, just coming up to 90,000 km. I bought it 22 years ago with 36,000 km, so just on 2500 km / year isn't exactly over using it. A nice town bike, 15km each way when it isn't raining is about my limit now, also using an old pudding basin type helmet, can't stand the full face type ( yes, I know ) and the slipstream effect on the helmet makes anything above 110 Km ( 70 mph ) annoying, so it is practical speed controller !

Headlights 24/7 mandatory in NZ now. Surprisingly few commuter uses of bikes in NZ so I'm often the only bike around in town, plenty of clubs, and Hells Angels Harley riders around from time to time, but few daily commuters, which is surprising as the weather is marginally better than the UK on average.

So glad you're still riding and enjoying your Honda ExSp33d lovely bike the CBX, not so sure about the pudding basin helmet though but I completely understand re full face, not many bikes around here during the week only Sunday riders nowadays, regards Stuart Filton UK.

Had a fabulous day out on a golf course today with my bike. Too busy playing golf to take any new photos.

Whilst it helps tremendously on the longer fairways, the rules here don't permit carts or ride-ons within 75 metres of the greens to protect their edges. So you end up doing a lot more walking around the greens getting back to where you parked it. The real advantage is not having to haul 20kgs of clubs and paraphernalia around oneself. 'Twas a truly splendid day. Well worth the investment if it enables me to keep playing into my eighties and beyond.
