In between watching an exciting afternoon of sport, one has been preparing:
Slow roasted brisket of beef in a red wine sauce (Merlot. And have quaffed most of the rest of the bottle) with onion, mushrooms and other veg.
Roast taters.
Asparagus wrapped in bacon with a soy, honey and butter glaze.
Apple pie and ice cream later if there's room.

Pub lunch funded by daughter.
King prawns with chili dip served on a crisp salad, followed by roast lamb (which was succulent) and Yorkshire pudding (not traditional, but I like Yorkshires).
Vegetables were cooked to perfection.
After a riverside walk ended up at our new icecream parlour - coffee flavour and walnut flavour in a tub.
Still stuffed.

Just prepared the mixture for cannellini bean croquettes to go with pita bread and sliced tomatoes this evening.
Lunch is yet to be prepared; Slasher's favourite ie sun dried tomato risotto.

Sorry Slasher but I seem to have missed the above flight, next time perhaps
Today we are having homemade salmon fishcakes with homemade tartare sauce and to add some class to the meal the veggies are baked beans.

Mrs. Hydro is cooking spaghetti & meatballs tonight. Simple fare, but one of my favourites. It will be washed down with a Margaret River 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, given to me by a grateful student.

Simple fare tonight:
Cannelloni stuffed with chicken, ricotta and pak choi (fusion stuff, I know) on a bed of (canned) cherry tomatoes, white sauce and parmesan. Side dish of a salad.

Humidex passing 35 headed the wrong way. Have retreated indoors, no longer being a mad dog Englishman. I have chicken souvlaki marinading in the fridge ready for the BBQ, with a greek salad to accompany. I have a Skyr Icelandic frozen yoghurt ice lolly lined up for dessert.

Just back from a 670k road trip this weekend with Mrs Fliegs...went to see 'Opera at Jimbou', more about that later....having been behind the wheel belting along demanding country roasd for several hours today, none of us have the inclination to cook, so -

All this talk of pie, I must give a punt to:
The Volunteer, Baker St. London.
The outside ain't changed much.
Its many years since I was there, but it was a great place for lunch. A constant on their menu were Steak & Kidney and Steak & Mushroom pie. Made in big trays and cut up to serve.
If one arrived late and asked for Steak & Mushroom and they had sold out, they served Steak & Kidney with a generous sprinkling of raw mushrooms on top.

Where do you get cod from in Oz?
I understood that it don't swim across the equator, and it is northern hemisphere only.

My favourite fish is kingklip, which I have only ever seen on menus in ZA.
Recently in a restaurant in CPT I saw :
Kingklip, sustainably fished in New Zealand.
I am not sure that shipping it halfway round the world is very 'sustainable' but I wish I could get it in UK.

+1 for Kingklip. Best fish anywhere in the world.
No idea what I shall eat tonight. Meeting with a colleague in a few minutes. We shall decide which establishment here in Taipei to grace with our presence. There are literally thousands and thousands to chose from!
