Can anyone here who has lived or worked in the former USSR or Russia tell me the name for a police file or police dossier?
Here are a couple of suggestions, OFSO. As with English, there is more than one way of describing what is basically the same thing. I am not sure which specific phrase would cover it, but try these: полицейское дело (pronunciation politseyskoye delo) or досье полиции (pronunciation dos'ye politsii) Some Russian words are adapted from French (from the days of the Romanovs, when anything French was seen as the height of chic). The word for beach for example is пляж, pronounced as plyazh.
Hope this helps - if not, feel free to PM me.

i agree with the others. Power of Attorney is easy to do yourself using the government website.
Mrs HF and I have done ours for each other and I did my late mother's. Very simple to do. So is
probate if the will is simple and there isn't a lot in the estate.

Amazing the difference in a few miles PN. At the moment the roads and paths are clear, dry in many places and the white stuff has been melting. It will probably change once the golden orb has disappeared for the day.

I notice that prison a few miles down the road from you has had a lurgy outbreak, which has put Rutland at the top of the league.

Well, did the walk, completely balled up with snow and unable to walk in any direction other than the one she wanted. Had to crawl though a hedge after her. Very good, she waited for me. When I thought she had enough I was wrong though she continued to have difficulty walking home. A hot bath melted the snow balls.

TGG - Power of Attorney is different here in Scotland both in name and a £1 cheaper registration fee than England. I did both of ours about 5 years ago. It's not difficult and there's plenty of guidance on line as others have indicated. No need to use a solicitor - up here if you haven't followed the rules then the Office of the Public Guardian will reject the application. In Scotland a solicitor of medical practicioner must witness the document. We got our GP to do that. This is to make sure the grantee is aware of what they're doing and are not under undue influence. Not sure if that means alcohol.......
Spent a very pleasant afternoon talking, here at home, to the lady in question, she is very much extant, compis mentus and really has the energy of a healthy person in their 60's despite her 87 years of age and her cancer, so I am very hopeful that I will be having a similar chat when she is in her 90's.

Many thanks to all those who have given me such good advice. I am going to do the legal stuff myself on the basis of that advice.

In my experience most legal stuff is common sense.

One problem I have is with barristers in TV courtroom dramas asking negative questions. Such as, 'Did you not visit 3, High St on 1st Feb?"

I long for a computer person to answer these questions correctly!

Ian, the thing about barristers is not to ask any question to which you don't know the answer. I read a book, the second half was riveting and I most binned it half way through. It was like a Grisham.

I remember a courts martial, defence barrister led the complainant to admit she was in quarters at Teeside Airport, that her husband was away on frequent detachments, and that she frequented the 'Airport Lounge Bar' at Teeside Airport. To that she said No.
His next was 'I put it to you that the barman of the name John would remember you. I ask you again, were you a frequent habitue of the APL bar'. She answered Yes and the case collapsed.
Subtext was 'were you a prostitute'. As it happens I had known the accused for 11 years and had been next to him on the day after. He was guilt as charged but got away with it, except he was asked to consider his future and resigned not long after. The RAF Regt was a very small world.

Not exactly caught, but discovered that someone is doing it. I guess they will try and follow the money.

My guess was a King snake, just based on the markings as seen from a distance. I was out walking the dog when I was attracted to the unusual motion of the swooping bird, then realised there was a hawk, then realised it was holding a snake. I think the coral snakes have more colouring than is visible in the photo. I would hope we don't have any of them around here, too.

I guess that the biggest issue here, the actual video making and its locale aside, is the fact that these people were so stupid as to post the resulting videos on an internet site... One would like to think that the crew on these nuclear boats are picked for their intelligence! :)

The X-rated film situation reached fever pitch at our local council some years back when the local private railway, leased out one of the trains to an American cheesy film company to make one of their "movies"... =))

I was so shocked that I accidently watched the film 5 times... :))
