When on a nice drafty airfield in eastern England, at about Oh dark thirty, in January and the bitterly cold wind is cutting through you.*
Take some time out to understand that there isn't a hill higher than 100' between you and Moscow!
*In Yorkshire it is called a 'Lazy Wind', 'cos it is too lazy to go round you.

I was lead to believe that there was no 'high ground' east of the Gog Magog hills near Cambridge until you reached the Urals.

Roger, um
Not sure of Spick land Cape, don't do bull fighting countries or ones who generally mistreat their animals. Southern Africa has to be Mount Kilimanjaro. I was going to say 10,000' but just looked it up. Literally miles out.

I don't think Kilimanjaro would generally be considered southern Africa, although it is just south of the equator. It is the highest mountain in Africa and it is about 2400 metres higher than the one I'm looking for.

OK Cape. 'Southern Africa' seems a bit nebulous. The Southern African Development Community includes Tanzania. Mind you, aprobably the European Song competition does as well.
Know now what you are looking for down here. Never heard of it! Certainly never climbed it.

The one on mainland Spain is likely in the Sierra Nevada but no idea of the name.
I don't know Southern Africa very well except for a few months in Rhodesia in Aunty Betty's employ and the average amsl was considerable but I don't recall any high mountains.
Oh, I did visit SA once to visit a game park or two. Companion was the lovely Alla, a very versatile Russian Ukrainian lass who enjoyed hot tubs.

I should think that something in the Drakensberg Mountains is probably the highest.

...... something in the Drakensberg Mountains is probably the highest.
The one on mainland Spain is likely in the Sierra Nevada.
Both above statements are correct.

Ian you're as bad as me ..... I still talk about Rhodesia, but that is mainly because I object to using the Z-word.
Yes, in 'Basutoland', not to be confused with 'Bechuanaland'.
I am going to bed now, I expect someone to have nailed this one by wake-up time. Goodnight.

I've just looked it up, it is only about 180km from where I'm sat, at sea level!
