I didn't know that about the Guardian, but if it is the case, why do they have a begging letter at the foot of every article?

I run an ad blocker because I value my computer security. None of these sites asking me to turn it off are prepared to indemnify me against loss should my PC catch a nasty virus via their website. If they really want to show me ads then they need to do it with server-side code that just injects static images into the HTML stream so everything appears to come from a single site with none of this dodgy javascript pulling stuff in from who knows where. Your average ad blocker would be defeated by this because if done properly, it would have no way of telling the difference between an ad image and a wanted image.

I do turn off the blocker for sites that render some relevant service and the blocked counter is under 10 or so. What gets me are sites where the counter goes up to 182 and they then cover the text with a gripe about how they really, really need to waste my bandwith. Sometimes one can work around it by reloading and then interrupt before it completes.

The international edition of the Sunday Times has dropped its TV and Radio sections which are now available on the subscription website 'for my convenience'. Yeh, right. Nothing to do with cost-cutting of course.

I appreciate most genres of art, including modern art, but I visited the Tate Modern a couple of years ago, and a greater waste of space I've yet to see. Mind you, 'appreciate' doesn't necessarily mean 'like'. Some art just isn't to my taste, even if I can appreciate what it's trying to say. But the TM seemed to be lacking any redeeming features.
If they'd left the original equipment in TM it would be far more attractive to most folk

Why does the screw holdng the top of the shower door only unscrew ? Door goes left right left right like Corbyn's opinions but screw only unscrews, never tightens...

I saw the hall full of plastic boxes a few years ago at Tate Modern. Ricardian makes an excellent point.

I picked up a friend of my mother from the local airport today. 20 minutes free parking was offered and as Murphy would like I stayed 21 hence I paid for a full hour for just one minute. At least the arrival lounge (landside) had some nice ladies that Slasher and myself would appreciate.

One is reluctant to admit that one is addicted to the Internet in the manner of a teenager and their Smartphone, but our connection was severed, along with some 4,200 other inhabitants of "Northland" at 16.25 yesterday, and not restored until some 22 hours later today. Panic ! After 2 hours listening to Rap music today, 'cos my call was so important to them, I was told to use my Smartphone to check their website as to projected progress repairing a fibre optic cable, time as yet indeterminable. How can I do that without a Smartphone? Eventually they agreed that should I happen to pop into their local town shop, I would be supplied with a free SIM card and 20 GB of data valid for 7 days, to energise my iPad, normally only used via home WiFi, and access the Internet via their 4G telephone network. Shortly after installing the SIM card in my iPad for me, resumption of normal Broadband service was announced, but they still let me keep the SIM card.

I wonder what the other 4,199 did ?

Back to normal with the home service now. Ain't Science wonderful ?

Right wing as we are north of the equator.

Think of a screw as a spiral ramp in contact with another surface, and it's all held in place by friction. You get repeated impacts on the screw head pulling the screw out, so the ramp slides a very small amount relative to the other surface. Over time this becomes noticeable, and as the screw starts to protrude, there's less contact surface area so a given impulse will have greater effect and so it will come loose at an ever-increasing rate.

Horrifyingly expensive stuff these days, at least in this southern colony.
And that isn't even the real thing, but some odd brand of 'thread sealant'.

I would imagine that a dab of cheap superglue would do the job.
