While Ian will be missed, I still miss some of our correspondents who have departed, both voluntarily and involuntarily.

Re: Absent Friends
By coincidence I visited Margate, years ago and I was hoping for a revisit and this time meet Ian16th , obviously this won’t happen now, I’ll miss his input into the cricket and football threads, even if he was Tyke and Middlesbrough supporter
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Sorry late on parade, Internet probs. Yes indeed very sad. He arranged for me to be guest speaker at a SAAFA lunch down south. RIP Ian.

Re: Absent Friends
My condolences to Ian's family for their loss, may he rest in peace.
Re: Absent Friends
If it hasn't already been done, perhaps Ricardian or Wodrick could forward our comments of sympathy for Ian's family to his son.

Perhaps someone could also place a note on TOP as he used to frequent there?

I'm another who only knew Ian through these pages, but always found his posts interesting, and he just seemed like a good bloke.

Re: Absent Friends
Ian used to scold me by PM and then by e-mail for my incontinent posting of music he didn't like and he reminded me a little of my dad in that. He was the quintessential ex-services guy, and a really good man I suspect. He and I eventually found some equilibrium on an equivalence of a love of Benny Goodman. It is sad that he isn't around, but he won't be forgotten!
I feel for his family and his wife (none of whom I know).

Re: Absent Friends
Received this from Ian's son:
Hi all the Ops Normal chaps.
Thank you so much for all the kind words, it is truly amazing to see how much you fellows really did know my Dad.
Yorkshire cricket...Geoff Boycott ,Fred Astaire, Benny Goodman and yes Peggy Lee.
Dad was very proud of his service in the RAF which later lead to being involved with the South African side of things too.
He was a quiet voice of reason and a very smart man, as well as his RAF service he worked 30 years for IBM as a systems engineer developing the early banking computers, working
on the Concord development and the first voice enhanced banking systems.... a clever chap.
Married to Maureen for 61 Years who is currently still in South Africa, we are making plans to get her to Melbourne as soon as possible.
Thank you again for reaching out with your kind words and memories.
Regards
Alastair Andrew
