The BBC apologised for getting something correct.

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-61563153
The BBC has apologised after a message appeared on the news channel saying "Manchester United are rubbish".

The text mistakenly popped up on the news ticker at the bottom of the screen during a tennis update just after 0930 on Tuesday.

Ten year old boy, A. , of my acquaintance, was in a group of Arsenal supporters asked to nominate a player to be painted in a mural, organised by the team, in Rosemary Park. All the other boys mentioned modern players. Young A. suggested Rocky Rocastle who died of cancer in 2001 at the age of 33, long before he was born, because he, A. , knows of every player past and present, and said he was a great person as well as a great footballer.
Arsenal got in touch with the descendants of Rocky, his daughters, who were delighted with the suggestion and said A. had to be rewarded, which now he will be, working with the painter doing the mural. As it happens he's got great talent, at ten, as a cartoonist, having been encouraged by, of course, Mrs OFSO.
Sometimes fortune rewards the deserving.

Tear gas fired at Liverpool fans at stadium ahead of Champions League final

The match between Liverpool and Real Madrid was delayed for 37 minutes Saturday as security struggled with frustrated crowds at the Stade de France.

PARIS — Riot police fired tear gas and pepper spray at Liverpool supporters forced to endure lengthy waits to get into the Champions League final which was delayed for 37 minutes as security struggled with frustrated crowds at the Stade de France on Saturday.

As Liverpool lost the showpiece game of the European season to Real Madrid 1-0, UEFA put the blame for blocked turnstiles on thousands of fans who purchased fake tickets. The competition organizers did not identity where they were from and Liverpool said it was “hugely disappointed” with the security issues experienced by its fans.

Angry Liverpool fans held in the lines were seen hanging onto railings and heard shouting: “Let us in. We’ve got tickets.”

There were many instances of fans breaking through security and attempting to get into the stadium. The Associated Press saw two fans — one was wearing Liverpool attire — wrestled to the ground by stewards and bundled out of the gates.

Three more fans were seen evading stewards and sprinting through the concourse and into the bottom level of the stadium. Other people, wearing no obvious club attire, climbed the fences instead as Liverpool fans shouted at them to get down.

The final kicked off despite fans still trying to get through ticket checks. Fresh rounds of tear gas were fired by riot police from inside the security perimeter at people outside the fences. Police and stewards were seen falling to the ground, impacted by the eye-irritating substances.

Supporter Colm Lacey saw “children crying, people trapped” outside the entrances.

“People started jumping the queue, then they ripped the gate open and then there was a push,” Lacey said.

About 15 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of 9 p.m. local time, an announcement was made that there would be a delay, blaming the late arrival of fans to the stadium. It was greeted by jeers inside the stadium, given those fans had already endured long queues. The game eventually started at 9.37 p.m.

“We’ve been stood at this gate since 6:15,” Liverpool fan Angela Murphy told the AP through a fence. “I’ve got really bad asthma and I’ve been tear gassed twice. I’m really struggling.”

Asked what provoked the tear gassing, Murphy replied: “Nothing, we’re stood here. There was nothing. It’s just been horrendous. We have been well behaved.”

Police officers with batons and riot shields ran from gate to gate to prevent pockets of fans forcing their way into the stadium without showing tickets. One policeman collapsed to the ground and had to be helped by other officers. Officers used tear gas on Liverpool fans on repeated occasions.

One Liverpool fan kissed his ticket and looked to the sky after finally getting through security.

Liverpool supporter Joe Moorcroft complained about being treated like animals.

“It’s a disgrace. We’ve seen this before, it’s a risk to health,” he said. “We’ve seen this and it’s going to happen all again. I feel it now. They threw tear gas in the fans.”

UEFA said it was “sympathetic to those affected” and it announced an urgent review by French police and authorities along with the French Football Federation.

“In the lead-up to the game, the turnstiles at the Liverpool end became blocked by thousands of fans who purchased fake tickets which did not work in the turnstiles,” UEFA said in a statement.

“This created a buildup of fans trying to get in. As a result, the kickoff was delayed by 35 minutes to allow as many fans as possible with genuine tickets to gain access. As numbers outside the stadium continued to build up after kickoff, the police dispersed them with tear gas and forced them away from the stadium.”

Liverpool wants a formal investigation.

“We are hugely disappointed at the stadium entry issues and breakdown of the security perimeter that Liverpool fans faced,” the club said in a statement. “This is the greatest match in European football and supporters should not have to experience the scenes we have witnessed tonight.”

The scenes were reminiscent of the chaos outside Wembley Stadium before the European Championship final last year. That was largely due to England fans aggressively trying to get into their home stadium for the game that Italy won.

Mrs 1DC and I were in Paris 30 or 40 years ago when Liverpool were going to play Real Madrid. The difference between the two groups of supporters was stark, the Real Madrid guys were scurrying through the city with their flags rolled up quietly going about their business, the Liverpool guys were screaming and chanting in groups generally making themselves objectionable and then wondering why the police were targeting them and not Real Madrid. Doesn't seem as if anything has changed. I expect Woody was the only sensible one there..

We had a great time mixing with the Madristas in Paris before the match, it was only when the French Police and UEFA got involved that problems occurred X(

Taking the piss out of the away fans...

A press release from Forest Green Rovers
We’re delighted to announce a brand-new partnership with Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI) ahead of the 2022/23 season.

NSI will provide restrooms and urine treatment facilities for the Away Fan Zone at The New Lawn.

Their space mission-inspired closed loop technology will convert fans’ urine into clean water and a concentrated fertiliser product, both of which can be used to keep the pitch in top condition.

The award-winning modular units will treat wastewater from the urinals through on-site physical treatment. The modules also have the potential for further treatment options of wastewater from the toilets and handwashing facilities to produce compost and flush water.

“The concept behind the system is space-based technology, where three separate wastewater streams – grey, yellow and black from handwashing, urinals and toilets respectively – are converted into flush water, irrigation water, fertiliser, and compost,” Ian Stentiford, Regional Director of NSI UK & Eire explained.

“The modules can also be configured to produce biogas and electricity. The result is a system that closes the loop between water treatment and water supply, to provide three of the basic necessities for life: water, food, and good sanitation.”

Henry Staelens, CEO, FGR, said: “The Away Fan Zone is a major focus for us over the summer as we head towards League One, where we will see a sizeable increase of fans at The New Lawn - we’re very pleased to have Nijhuis on board as part of that".

What's the betting they bottle the water and sell it to the away fans at the next match?

Forest Green Rovers are well known for their green credentials.
the club was transformed following investment from green energy industrialist Dale Vince in 2010.

Under Vince's chairmanship Forest Green became the world's first vegan football club in 2015, and the New Lawn was installed with numerous eco-friendly innovations.[2] Investment in the playing squad saw the club compete for promotion into the English Football League, which they achieved with victory in the 2017 National League play-offs, having been beaten in the semi-finals in 2015 and in the 2016 final. Forest Green were then promoted to League One in 2022 for the first time in their history, following a EFL League Two title win.

Yes, it's time for a change at the top of the England set up.

I see the 2026 World Cup is coming to a stadium near me. The one where pilots complain about the big video screen when on approach to SJC.
