Well, that's a relief! We won't have to endure a penalty shoot-out between England and Germany.

Yes, he's knocking on a bit now - 82. That's old for a footballer. Somehow, they don't seem to live very long, compared to the rest of us.

Well, Australia's out now. Personally, I thought they did well to contain Argentina. A few missed opportunities and a glaring error by the Aussie goalie. One which he'll rue for a long time.
Some pundits were predicting a 4-0 defeat by the Argentinians, so 2-1 isn't so bad.

I thought they played like the Germans in the first half. Just passing the ball and making the Arg do all the running. I thought the Arg were actually outplayed in the first half.

A bit like the Falklands, then! :)

Just wasted 95 minutes of my life watching D**** from North of the Med attacking W*** from South of the Med. Result nil nil and five minutes of (fake) injury time. What a fiasco.

^ I got up at 3:30am to follow this!

edit at 6:50am - such a disappointing way to conclude a game. Oh well. C'est la guerre.

Next game in just over an hour.

Interesting

I thought it was one of best 0-0s I've ever seen, and all credit to the Madrid-born Moroccan kid who nicked all Spain's cojones for his decisive penalty

Great game

It's always been the opinion among Catalan footballistas that if Catalunia was declared an independent country with its own national football team, it would wipe the floor with everyone else.

Well! Very good of Brazil and Croatia to confine all the scoring to extra time et cetera seeing as I didn't get up to follow the earlier part.
Intense last few minutes.
Well done the winners.
