The question is - was the evacuation justified?

Who decided and ordered it?

I think we should be told . . .

Grandfather, 87, of England rugby star Jonathan Joseph is missing after being swept out to sea while swimming with his daughter and niece in Granada
Proof reading clearly not a forte of the D M.

If anyone can make sense of this paragraph from our second favourite paper, could you please let me know :-o
A threat of a pilots' strike at BA still hangs over hundreds of thousands of Britons who have booked flights with the airline this summer. The protest involving around 4,000 workers at Heathrow, including security staff and engineers, will still go ahead if they reject an improved pay offer.

A walkout scheduled for the start of the month was suspended.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Police hunt for brainless yobs who risked hundreds of lives by dumping huge blocks of concrete on a railway before a high-speed train crashed into them.
The three young men were caught on CCTV planting the waste materials on the railway line on Ridley Lane in Croston, Lancashire.
A train sped by a few minutes later and smashed into the blocks.
The terrified driver had to battle at the controls as the carriages swayed violently but managed to keep it on the the tracks.
I may be wrong here, in which somebody please correct me, but apart from slowing down in a controlled manner, I am not sure that the driver can 'battle at the controls' to keep a train on the track after such an event.

“Emergency landing” , sure it wasn’t unscheduled or did the flight crew really declare Mayday?

Not just the DM:
Despite the passengers' reactions, the pilot remained calm, the Herald was told.
Well, that's a comfort anyway.

from a report headlined Plane fails three landing attempts -

And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Almost 7000 Hurricane fighter jets were constructed there, handing the RAF a significant boost in its military campaign defending the British skies from the German Luftwaffe in 1940.

Now here's a thought
flight simulators that are so realistic experienced pilots can become qualified to fly an aircraft on them without taking to the skies for real.
Add a passenger module and sell tickets. Instead of flying to the Caribbean, spend 9 hours in the tube then go Butlins for a week. :)

BBC news video clips accompanying news of cancelled flights from China show a rather small Airbus landing at the 'row.

Yes - good advice - I had never thought of that before, but, no, there generally is no-one sitting on the window side. :-bd

A BBC video clip accompanying news of cancelled flights from China shows a A318 landing at Heathrow... well, it's a passenger jet, isn't it.
