Yes, just got my fourth, t'rouble is they appear to come from my own e-mail address, so I can't blacklist it, or I would not tehn be able to receive any e-mail that I copy back to myself, or send to my wife - we share the same e-mail address. 'tis a puzzlement, said Alice.
Well over a year ago I had a software battle with the scammers adding increasing amounts of symbols in their address trying to outflank my spam filters. Then they started to use my email address. I sent message after message to my ISP with no apparent effect. At some point in the last couple of years it all stopped. Zilch.

What I do get are offers to test a product and keep it, our that I have won a modest prize from a well known UK retailer, usually Tesco. The registered address is usually in the US.

I have had one sex porn blackmail message $3000 in my case. As my principal device is Kindle and it has no contact list there was no chance they had hacked me. Then for a blackmail attempt with threat they forgot to put in a deadline.

Had an attempted phone scam today. When I answered, a well spoken male with an Australian accent asked if I was Hydro, and introduced himself as Tom from Medowie Financial services. He started to tell me about their services, when I interrupted him and gave him a blast about not checking the DNC register, for which he was most apologetic and I hung up. However, before I reported him I checked the ASIC companies register and there is no such company. I therefore reported him to Scamwatch instead, for all the good that will do.
Had I been thinking, I should have let him keep talking while recording it, to get at as much information about the scam as possible. Of course, it's illegal to record calls without advising the other party, so I would actually have taken it down in shorthand. That's what I meant to say.

Record it, then transcribe the relevant parts to paper, and claim that you can write fast!

Did just that to Southwark Council when I was figuratively thumping their table on behalf of a parishioner. "You can't do that; it's illegal!" "Why then, do your responses all say that before I can press 1 for this and 2 for that?" Click, and the disconnect tone. Unfortunately for the gentleman concerned, he had given his name when first responding, and a written complaint to the ch. exec. resulted in a personal visit and a bunch of flowers for his tenant.

Under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) it is not illegal in the UK for a private individual to record all or any telephone calls he/she makes to private individuals or businesses etc without telling the other party but only if the recording is for their own use. Under certain circumstances a business does not have to inform the other party that their call is being recorded. See the BBC article below.

Rules on taping phone calls - BBC News

I record all calls from my home phone using a TrueCall device. TrueCall also has ensured that no marketing or scam call has reached my handset in the four years I've had it installed. My TrueCall can record 70 hours of calls but I clear it down about once a month, transferring the calls I want to keep onto my PC. If anyone staying here uses my phone I clear the call recording immediately they have finished.

It came in handy recently after 5 calls over 67 minutes in respect of a complaint to BT. Having escalated my complaint in desperation they denied what their customer service idiots had told me. I said that as they recorded all my calls perhaps they would like to replay them to verify everything and I gave them the dates, time and duration of the calls. I offered to send them mp3 files of the calls if they were unable to locate them. £50 compensation arrived in my bank account without further argument from them.

Whenever I hear that, I just assume they're giving me permission.

The "we've hacked your system" scammers appear to be on holiday. After several thousand failed attempts (I have a really good spam filter that bounces them) there were none overnight.

Clearly they were on tea break, a hundred or so came in overnight. There's an interesting pattern to the delivery though, they arrive in groups of four, all addressed to the same email account but with different subject headers and message texts.

One of my scambaiting accounts has had some incoming mail requesting air tickets - it's a pretty common scam, they use stolen or compromised credit cards for payment.

I'm baiting them and will get the card blacklisted and issue dummy tickets. Sometimes these NRs are stupid enough to go to the airport and try to check in, I have had a couple arrested.

My 'office' has two staff members. One is Uyar Akunt, and the other is Uyar Abigg Akunt.

I am waiting for them to send high definition faxed copies of passports, visas, and credit cards. They hate that as it is slow and costs them money! I usually reject the first two or three and tell then the definition isn't high enough.
Dear .
Thanks for the mail response i really appreciate it, Below is the booking details we have ,i will be expecting the fare details as soon as possible so that we can proceed with the issuance of the tickets.

What a stupid pathetic attempt! This came into the spam folder of one of my scambaiting (not masturbating!) accounts. I've split it into paragraphs to make it less incoherent.

What's even funnier is that even if I were inclined to pay, I would have no idea how to do so as the instructions mean nothing to me. The scammer must be a complete moron - pretty obvious from his abuse of the English language.
I really advise you to study this letter, simply to be sure absolutely nothing could occur

Hi.. . This email is not going to acquire too much of your energy, and so direct to the condition. I got a video clip of you tootin' your horn when at the pornpage you're been to, because of a terrific arse software program I have was able to put on a couple of websites with that kind of material.

You click play button and all cameras and a mic start working in addition, it saves every darn detail coming from your pc, including contact info, passwords or ***** similar to dat, think just where i obtained this email address from?) And so now we all know just who i will send out that to, in case you not necessarily gonna settle down this with me. I am going to place a wallet address below for you to send me 330 dollars in Three dayz max via bitcoin. See, it's not that huge of a sum to pay, suppose this makes me not that terrible of a person.

You are allowed to complete whichever da ***** you would like to, yet if i will not find the total amount in the time period mentioned above, clearly... you already realize what could happen. And so it's under your control at this point. I'm not gonna go through everything and stuff, just simply don't have time for that and you probably know that net is loaded with text letters similar to this, so it is also your decision to trust in this or not, there may be just a proven way to uncover. Here's the btc wallet address: 1GxNViGfi3V6958fsyGGPKbVWELsrLqu8E Have a good time and keep in mind that wall clock is ticking)) Click this link to unsubscribe: http://marketing.allagents.co.uk/unsubs ... That's the stuff I've been referring to. If you've only just seen one then you're lucky - my system has bounced thousands of emails on that sort of theme. Some of them do tell you to Google "Bitcoin payment", and the amount they're asking for varies from about $100 to over $800. Some throw in a password, which helps date the data breach from which they found all the stuff to at least ten years ago. One set were even helpful initially because they reminded me of a password I'd long forgotten so I could go in and change it then close the associated account which hadn't been used for over ten years.

I just counted, across all the variations of "you've been hacked, pay us in Bitcoin", the system here has bounced 8604 of them as of just now, that number not including the few that got through before the filters caught up.

Well, who’d have thunk it :ymdevil:
A court in Milan is considering charges of corruption against Eni and Shell in a controversial oil deal that led to Nigeria losing an estimated $6bn.
The campaign group Global Witness has calculated the OPL 245 deal in 2011 deprived Nigeria of double its annual education and healthcare budget.
Eni and Shell are accused of knowing the money they paid to Nigeria would be used for bribes.
The Italian and Anglo-Dutch energy giants deny any wrongdoing.
This unfolding scandal, which is being played out in an Italian court, has involved former MI6 officers, the FBI, a former President of Nigeria, as well as current and former senior executives at the two oil companies.
The former Nigerian oil minister, Dan Etete, was found guilty by a court in France of money laundering and it emerged he used illicit funds to buy a speed boat and a chateau. It is also claimed he had so much cash in $100 bills that it weighed five tonnes.
When all else fails, read the instructions.
