My mother used to keep a 'Thunderer' next to the telephone (back in the 1950s) for the purpose of signalling the end of the game.Pinky the pilot wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 12:06 pmSpeedy; Why don't you get yourself an Umpires whistle and give one of those scammer callers a blast?
It may not work, but an aquaintance of mine swears that the last time he did it he heard screams of agony before the call disconnected.
SCAMMERS !

OK, the script kiddie is in overdrive. My mail system bounced 440 extortion scam emails last night.

Knew it was a legit number as it came up in my contacts as already stored and on bank's website.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:00 amPHXP, you said you called the number linked in the text. Here that is a red flag.
I made a large payment to a new contractor. Not long after I got a telephone message from a London number. My bank is based in Lancashire.
I searched the number and many reported it as scam. I contacted the bank online and they confirmed scam.
Got a second call from the London number.
Turned out that the bank had outsourced its fraud detection and not told its own staff.

Lots of calls past few days from +44 161 5***** varients. Person calling, a woman, has incomprehensible jiggy-jiggy accent, African I guess. Manchester, my phone says. All added to report and block.
Silly waste of time, having a person calling who can't be understood.

I refer you to Will Smith's song "Getting jiggy with it. "
Re: SCAMMERS !
Well - thank you for your concern. I certainly 'pricked up my ears' there, but a search on the meaning of 'jiggy-jiggy' enables me to relax my audio devices.Opsboi wrote:spare a thought for admin who could end up under a huge pile of manure if comments like this get picked up

These to both of our accounts

Same here.
Re: SCAMMERS !
Ditch McAfee (should have done years ago!) or blacklist the sending email address? Problem gone.

Re: SCAMMERS !
Not really. The email address is alfa numerics. Never had McAfee.
The name is variations such as mc-a'fee, the threat is 'shocking' for the unaware.
Where the email address is garbage and you don't have McAfee the whole thing is just annoying.
Oddly my AV has never been spammed.

I think most are..............The email address is alfa numerics
Depending on the 'quality' of your email server etc you should be able to put filters on the spam service which exclude keywords.

Re: SCAMMERS !
In theory yes, in practise the spanners vary the spelling or spacing which dodges the filter. A few years ago an email might have been McAfe.e, then they would change to McAe..e.
It took more effort to set up an auto delete filter than simply have the filter program flag it up for deletion. Now I don't bother.
I routinely click delete all and then undelete those I want. A process I used at work when I deleted everything on returning from leave.

Re: SCAMMERS !
I am lucky, the IMF has stepped in as banks having been taking too long sending me my $5,700,000 that I am owed. I can't remember why I am owed that but hey ho.
Re: SCAMMERS !
There have been several cases in Australia too. It seems to boil down to scammers hijacking an owner's email address, and solicitors/conveyancers not confirming that the instruction to sell is genuine.
