It's a relatively normal practice in the rest of Europe, as well as in the USA, to plug and unplug without any switches being thrown as we don't have switched sockets. Now don't get me started on the USA style plugs, but in our corner of the EU the plugs are such that this doesn't really create any issues.

I think the only difference is that you might get the flash/bang when you plug it in instead of when you switch it on. =))

A blonde was on vacation and driving through Darwin
She desperately wanted to take home a pair of genuine crocodile shoes but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking
After becoming very frustrated with the 'no haggle on price' attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted, "Well then, maybe I'll just go out and catch my own crocodile"
The shopkeeper said, "Jeez lady, just go and give it a try" and directs her to the river
Later in the day, as the shopkeeper is driving home, he spots the same young woman standing waist deep in the murky water, shotgun in hand; he also spots a huge 3 metre croc swimming rapidly toward her
With lightning speed, she takes aim, kills the creature and hauls it onto the riverbank - lying nearby are 7 more of the dead creatures, all lying on their backs
The shopkeeper stood on the bank, watching in silent amazement as the blonde struggled and flipped the latest croc onto its back

"Ah, bollocks, this one's barefoot too..."

or the present 3 - pin USA plugs now used in homes that were built with only the then current 2 - pin only sockets ! (ask me, I know, and with the closure of Radio Shack I can't find an adapter ) Bare wires and a couple of matchsticks works.

Don't mess with bare wires! Jaycar has adapters (you are in NZ, right?) and they have local NZ/Aus/China pattern plugs you can put on the appliance cord.

Yes, but Mrs ExS still has roots in the USA and we spend time there, old 2-pin sockets, new 3-pin appliances. The local US equivalent of our now extinct NZ Dick Smith electronic retailer has also closed down.

Jaycar also have adapters for US appliances for use in NZ.

Bare wires and match sticks fit any socket, cost nothing and liven you up if your fingers slip. It's only 220v after all. (I passed my City and Guilds so I'm immune to low voltage.)

Get yourself an engineering degree and you'll be immune to high voltage too!
Physicists can of course withstand millions of volts!!

So, the London Marathon this year. Three hours, 12 minutes, 10 seconds.

Then I got bored and changed channel on the TV.

I dropped a really big crumb on my keyboard. Nothing to worry about, though, it’s under Ctrl.
