Magnus - got a bit of a problem there, and I don't know how to put it to avoid upsetting some people - shall I just say she is appears to be using too much white make-up? Did I get away with it that time?

How many grooves are there on a typical 33rpm record, and how many on a 78?

More on a 33 1/3rd, less on a 78. Can't remember what the 45 RPM (i.e. for LPs) had.

33 was LPs, 45 for singles and EPs

78 was for wax cylinders

One groove whether it be 45, 33 or 78 rpm.

Half right - the answer is 2. One on each side.

78 was for wax cylinders

If you were running a turntable at 16.666, it was hardly likely to be precise, sadly.

I beg ignorance. The only turntable I ever had was a Sony one, cost me a tenner in Gan. Lovely wooden case too, none of your plastic rubbish.

Surely the turntable speed would be as accurate as the motor speed? Generally related to mains frequency on cheaper units, so not that precise anyway. (minus 1% to plus 1.5% here in the UK)

Wasn't 16 2/3 used as grid distribution frequency at some point in Europe? It happens to be 1/3 of 50 kilocycles ( :ymdevil: )
