And the most useful is a 2lb claw hammer.
Hammer, Claw, 2lb.

I allways remember that in Boys service, our early Workshop lessons included how to describe tools.

1. What it is: a Hammer.
2. What type it is: A Claw
3. What size it is: 2lb.

Though we didn't have much use for claw hammers, so the usual example was a:

Hammer, Ball Pane, 16oz.

Hammer.....a touch of gentle persuasion

Found my best hammer vacuuming Jnr Fliegs room this morning

Found another 3 hammers (mostly all very rusty) throughout the yard during recent renos...found a large slab of concrete buried as well....various small plastic sea creature figurines, many champagne corks, a few empty champagne bottles, a length of steel reinforcing rod standing vertically where once was bamboo, Jnr Fliegs once cherished & expensive runners from about 10 years ago, a plastic container that had two pebbles in it, plastic cups and remnants of various celebration decorations of time passed (Birthdays, Christmases etc) and under the old step a rusted out jar that once contained all our names on a piece of paper...a kinda time capsule, but the names were unreadable, all rusted & muddy.

I always thought that a hammer was an American screwdriver.

When I spent more time than I would have liked to in Romania in the 70s, I often saw screws which had no slit into which to put the screwdriver blade and I asked what they did with them. "Hammered them in" was the answer.

Physicist gestures at horses - "here are the stables."
Physicist gestures at other, flickering, vibrating horses. One horse explodes - "and here are the unstables."

You must always understand that the most useless tool in your toolbox is the wrong size Allen key!
Usually Metric when you need Imperial, and what idiot invented those Square holed screws ? Never have the right sized square bit to put into my multi-bit screwdriver set, ( if I can remember where I put the set ) whereas one can usually get by with any size slotted or Phillips driver to hand.

Sorry, thread drift, but you started it !

I had a long visit to TAROM in Bucharest in 1969. Embassy quite keen to get me roped in on BN2A program, but managed to extricate myself. Interesting times.

Some dickweed Canadian named Peter Lymburner Robertson in 1909, after he cut his hand with a slotted screwdriver.
Well, you asked. :D

I actually quite like them. Using the drill the bit is less likely to slip.

You had a narrow escape, Alison! I could cope with most of the Eastern Bloc in those days, but Romania was something else. The Securitate were not shy in letting you know you were being followed - everywhere!

How about SAAB who had a bolt with a triangular head set into a deep collar. Bastard, couldn't get a mole wrench on them.

I have two socket sets. One up to 12 and one 12-22. The later has one every mil except for 16. Guess which bolt I find most common. Now someone in Japan was having a laff.

I guess we won't be seeing Lord Buckethead in any more by-elections.
