I suspect the wild animals in this case may not have been fluent in French and thought the couple were Brits and therefore fair game?

https://metro.co.uk/2020/07/30/lion-rip ... -13060105/

Strange it has taken 5 years to get m'learned friends involved?

What is it about homo sapiens which makes him think he/she is safe in a wild environment?

It's the same with those who go swimming in shark infested waters and are then surprised when they become dish of the day.

Aircraft is a Cessna 402C.
I ran the numbers and 500kg would be no problem unless they had full fuel AND tried to put 5-6 pax on as well.
Oh well.

PNG was an Australian territory until 1975.

Indeed, but PNG is now Independent.

There is, I believe, (not specifically in Australia) laws that allow prosecution of Nationals who commit crime in other countries (sometimes used for sex crimes against under-age children in countries such as Thailand).

Australia may prosecute for international crimes but these are generally war crimes and they have a poor record in so doing. Whether they would prosecute in this case is questionable.

A good contester in Northern Greece. Apparenty he hit a tall plane tree while circling the village not far from where his mother works.

Our waters are not 'infested' as such....but they (Sharks) are most certainly about. It's a calculated risk thing...

Put that down as a partial failure then?

Having read many books of the tales of merchant ship crews surviving for weeks in open boats sharks circling for food, I forgot completely when swimming in the Indian Ocean until the beach guard shouted 'arks, 'arks I only paddled after that. Although when in the Malacca Straits we were assured there were no sharks, just sea snakes.

For some reason Reunion has become a target for sharks in the Indian Ocean.

Given the species of shark that swim in the waters around the UK,I'm suprised there have been no attacks.

Where were the sharks when needed this week?

Channel swimmer rescued after eight-hour search https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-53980060

I trust this individual has been thoroughly “counselled” and ‘invited’ to make a generous donation to the RNLI?

""At around 12.10pm today HM Coastguard received a call from a member of the public with information that their friend was swimming unaccompanied to Calais from Dover."

" Blow me down, we thought Albert had just popped over to France for some fags"

Yes the Channel swimmer episode is puzzling - did he just swim around in circles? - or was he on his way back?
