Today's Telegraph, definitely an award candidate
Young man killed on e-scooter had girlfriend on back
Britain has recorded its second e-scooter death after a 20-year-old was killed in a collision with a car.

Shakur Pinnock died on Friday after the collision on June 12. He had been riding along a road in Wolverhampton with his girlfriend, Chanté Hoosang, 19, on the back when he hit a VW Golf.
Almost a double.

LA Police = ****...

#583 Post by TheGreenGoblin » Thu Jul 01, 2021 6:45 pm

The Los Angeles police department detonated a cache of homemade fireworks it had seized, causing a major explosion on a residential block that injured 17 people, flipped and damaged cars and smashed windows in nearby homes.

It could take days to determine why what was supposed to be a safe operation to handle explosives that police said were too unstable to remove turned into a huge explosion.

Police exploded the devices at about 7.30pm on Wednesday in an iron containment vessel on a tractor-trailer in a South Los Angeles neighborhood, believing the vehicle would be able to contain the explosion. But there was a “total catastrophic failure of that containment vehicle”, the LA police chief, Michel Moore, said, according to the LA Times.

“Clearly, protocols were followed and pursued. But something happened in that containment vessel that should not have happened and we don’t know why,” the chief added. “But we intend to find out why.”

Homes, cars and a laundromat had windows shattered and one car had its side plowed in and was knocked on its side by the force of the blast.

The blast sent nine police officers and a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officer to the hospital with minor injuries, the fire chief, Ralph M Terrazas, said.

Six civilians, ranging from 51 to 85 years old, were taken to the hospital, three with minor and three with moderate injuries, and one person was examined at the scene but was not transported, fire officials said.

News reports showed several people on gurneys being taken to ambulances.

Fireworks are illegal to sell or possess in Los Angeles and in unincorporated areas of the county but “every year, we see the devastation and destruction” from them, Terrazas said.

After a self-launching bonfire took off at a station's Guy Fawkes celebration, the question was asked "WTF was put on that fire?" ^#(^ ^#(^ ^#(^

The incident generated lots of official letters, ended at least one career and was featured in Air Clues with a warning not to use AVPIN at such events.

4ma, you give me an idea. About 2 years before 'blow the bloody doors off' our stn cdr was ordered to put his Mk1 Vulcan on the burning dump.

He did not want to do this to his aircraft, one he had done some record in.

The plan was to blow the undercarriage off. He said it was to be done when he was not on the station so the deed was done on a Sunday. They used sufficient explosives to ensure it truely collapsed and added a quantity of contaminad oil for effect. By plan or not it was later calculated that there was 10 tonnes of avtur too.

After the 'crump' a black mushroom cloud formed about 500 feet above the crash dump. The crash crew got the dummy crew our practically undamaged. The heat was such that the cockpit instrument glass melted.

The remains were transferred to the scrap heap.

One wonders.

AN E-SCOOTER rider was killed after hitting a metal fence on a footpath in what is believed to be the fourth death relating to the vehicles in the UK.

The 54-year-old man collided with the fence at the back of Falmer railway station in Brighton at around 8.15pm on June 8.
*Scooter assisted death.

I must have a look to see if any made it to museums. I don't think many of the various Mk1s made it.

TGG, your list omitted the 25 ac in the XA series.
889 was the first and scrapped in 71. 890 ditto. 895, 906 907, 911, 912, 913 in 68
891 crashed in 59.
892 as instructional
893 broken up
894 burnt up during Olympus 22R test
896 testbed for BS100
897 HEATHROW CRASH
898 as instructional 64
899 as instructional, 900 ditto 66, 991 ditto, 904 ditto 61, 905 ditto, 910 ditto
902 testbed for Conway and Spey, withdrawn 63
903 Blue Steel, RB199, and 27mm cannon
908* crashed in 58
909 crashed in 64

*The following account is as I recall it. The electrical failure was a cascade failure with busbar coupling failing each generator in turn. The battery was a cube about 5 inches and could be held in one hand.
RAF Avro Vulcan B.1 XA908 of 83 Squadron crashed into the residential neighbourhood of Grosse Pointe Park on the East side of Detroit, Michigan, USA after a complete electrical systems failure. The failure occurred at around 30,000 ft (9,100 m) and the backup system should have provided 20 minutes of emergency power to allow the aircraft to divert to Kellogg Airfield, Battle Creek, MI. Due to a short circuit in the service busbar, backup power only lasted three minutes before expiring and locking the aircraft controls. XA908 then went into a dive of between 60–70° before it crashed, leaving a 40 foot (13 m) crater in the ground, which was later excavated to 70 ft (21 m) deep in an unsuccessful attempt to find the cockpit of the aircraft. All six crew members were killed, including the co-pilot, who had ejected. The co-pilot’s ejector seat was found in Lake St Clair but his body was never found. Conflicting sources claim his body was found the following spring in the lake without a life vest. There were no reports of casualties on the ground.[515]

Should have left him in the hole, head down. Legs and feet would have come in handy for drying towels and keeping them off the sand.

ROOTSTOWN, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver after a man allegedly attempted to swallow a bag of cannabis when he was pulled over for speeding.

Sgt. Ray Santiago said the traffic stop occurred on July 3 in Portage County.

Trooper Charles Hoskin conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle that was allegedly traveling at 94 mph in a 70-mph zone, according to NBC affiliate WKYC of Cleveland.

Dash camera video posted to the state agency's Twitter account shows Hoskin asking if the driver could breathe before helping him out of the car and performing the Heimlich. The man expelled a bag of marijuana and apologized to the officer.

After the man recovered, Hoskins asked, “Do you want to die over a minor misdemeanor?”

The man received citations for speeding and failing to wear a seatbelt, according to Santiago. The man also received a summons for marijuana and was released at the scene.

England fans after the semi final had a practice standing on top of a London bus. Not being Indian they were clearly not practiced in such things. I hope tonight they don't fall off or throw themselves under said bus.
