The guy should have been shot instead and left as a holiday treat for the tigers.

Exactly what I thought before I had read even half the story

Two killed in Florida train crash after car ignores crossing gate
The crossing gate’s lights were flashing and bells were ringing to signal an approaching train on Thursday morning.

VENTURA, Fla. — Two people died when a higher speed commuter train hit their car as the driver tried to make it around the crossing gate, police said.

The crossing gate’s lights were flashing and bells were ringing to signal an approaching train on Thursday morning when the car tried to make it through, police and Brightline train officials said.

The blue Toyota was left mangled on the other side of the street after the crash.

Officials said no one on the train was injured.

“This was a tragic event and the direct result of an individual driving around the gates which were down, flashing and bells ringing, signaling an approaching train,” Brightline said in a statement.

Caesar Tavares, who lives nearby in Aventura, told WSVN he heard the crash.

“I knew right away the train hit somebody because it was real loud. The car was rolling. Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Then all of a sudden it stopped,” he said.

Tavares told the television station that he frequently sees people trying to get around the gates.

“The train comes here every 15 minutes and people are always stopping on the tracks,” he said. “I knew it was bound to happen.”

The trains only recently started running again after being shut down at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

A man who was walking on the tracks in North Miami Beach died when he was struck by a Brightline train earlier this month. It was at least the 49th involving a Brightline train since the Miami to West Palm Beach line launched in mid-2017.

An Associated Press examination of federal records shows that Brightline has more fatalities per mile than any U.S. railroad, one about every 31,000 miles. Since 2018, an average of about 1,200 people are fatally struck by trains annually in the United States.

None of the deaths involving Brightline have been blamed on its equipment or crews. Investigations showed most victims were either suicidal, intoxicated, mentally ill or had gone around barriers at an intersection in an attempt to beat the trains, which travel up to 79 mph through densely populated areas.

A pedestrian was killed by a commuter rail train in downtown Orlando on Thursday. Police were investigating the cause of that crash, news outlets reported.

Maybe the train line should get an award (Darwin Assist) for helping to weed out the gene pool? :-? :-o :))

I just spotted that one and was coming over to mention her too. I guess it sort of worked for her, she's not going to catch it again.

Not strictly speaking Darwin as he didn't kill himself. Drunk priest is supposed to be sacrificing a goat but instead slits the throat of the guy holding it. Has to be India of course.

A stowaway was found alive aboard a plane wheel in Amsterdam after flying more than 11 hours

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/23/europe/s ... index.html

(CNN)Dutch authorities discovered a stowaway hiding in the nose wheel of a cargo plane when it landed at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport Sunday morning.

The man had been hiding for more than 11 hours since the plan departed from Johannesburg, South Africa, according to a spokesperson at Schiphol airport and police. While the individual was not identified, officials said he is believed to be between 16-35 years old.
"We learned that a person was found having stowed away on a cargo plane at the airport's cargo platform, this morning," Schiphol Airport spokeswoman Willemeike Koster told CNN. The Dutch Royal Military Police is handling the situation, Koster said.
Airport ground crew first spotted something that looked like a person and immediately notified authorities. Upon reaching the scene, Dutch police and emergency services confirmed the man was alive but with a low body temperature, Royal Dutch Military Police spokeswoman Joanne Helmonds said.
"We were surprised upon finding this man but even more surprised at him being alive after the plane flew over 10,000 [kilometers] in very, very cold temperatures," Royal Dutch Military Police spokeswoman Joanne Helmonds told CNN.
The man was revived and stabilized at the airport and then transported to a hospital in Amsterdam, Helmonds added.
"When the man has recovered and cleared by the hospital, he will then be processed at the Asylum Seekers Centre (AZC) where his status will be determined if he indeed is looking for asylum," Helmonds said.
Flight times between Johannesburg and Amsterdam average about 11 hours, and if the flight had a stopover in Kenya, the journey would have been several hours longer, according to Royal Dutch Military Police,
Cargolux, the Luxembourgian cargo airline the stowaway was aboard, declined to comment on the news until an investigation into the situation is complete.

Hiker falls nearly 700 feet to his death attempting a selfie in Arizona state park, officials say
Richard Jacobson, 21, fell off Flatiron Summit in Lost Dutchman State Park.

Or maybe base jumping and forgot his parachute? :-?

A 21-year-old hiker died after falling roughly 700 feet off a cliff while trying to take a selfie on Monday, authorities in Arizona said.

Richard Jacobson had been camping with a friend on top of Flatiron Summit in Lost Dutchman State Park, about 40 miles east of Phoenix, when he went to the edge to take a picture and slipped, a spokesperson with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The friend called 911 around 12:45 a.m. to report the fall.

The sheriff's office search and rescue team was sent to the summit and found Jacobson's body "approximately 400 to 700 feet below," the spokesperson said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter was called to assist with recovering the body.

“Mr. Jacobson went to go take a photograph with himself and the city skyline in the background, and he lost his footing, and he slipped, and he fell,” Sergeant Doug Peoble, with the sheriff's office, told local station Arizona's Family.

The search and rescue team told the station Jacobson's death was a rare, tragic accident.

Massachusetts man arrested after trying to enter tiger cage at Boston zoo, police said
Matthew Abraham, 24, allegedly climbed over a gate into the zoo at around 9 a.m., scaled several fences and ignored warning signs, officials said.

BOSTON — A Worcester man was arrested Monday for trying to enter a tiger enclosure after breaking into Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo.

The Massachusetts State Police said that when questioned, the man only said he was very interested in tigers.

Matthew Abraham, 24, allegedly climbed over a gate into the zoo at around 9 a.m., scaled several fences and ignored warning signs but was unable to gain access to the tiger enclosure, investigators said.

Zoo New England, which operates the 72-acre Boston zoo, said in a statement that the man was in an area behind the tiger exhibit not meant for the public. When approached by staff, he ran off but was quickly located by security officials.

He was arrested and charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct.

It was not immediately known if Abraham had a lawyer.

I guess this is a novel way to go...

A man died Wednesday after a car he was driving caught fire, the Oakland Police Department said.

Just before 11 a.m., Oakland police responded to a report of a stolen car in the 8400 block of Ney Avenue.

Oakland police said when their officers made attempts to contact the man inside the car, he drove off.

According to Oakland police, officers did not pursue the car on the ground but the department's helicopter monitored from the air, when they observed sparks coming from the car. Police said the car eventually came to a stop and was caught on fire.

The man was unable to get out of the vehicle, police said.

Oakland police said when their officers arrived on the scene and attempted to rescue the man, but the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. The man died in the car.
