US tourist survives fall into Mount Vesuvius after reaching for phone
Not even an Honorable Mention. [-X
Must try harder.

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/moun ... index.html

(CNN) — An American tourist fell into the crater of Mount Vesuvius in an attempt to retrieve his mobile phone at the weekend, Italian police told CNN on Monday.
The 23-year-old man from Baltimore was hiking an unauthorized trail accompanied by three relatives on Saturday morning, the carabinieri of the provincial command of Naples said. Two British tourists were also spotted walking on the forbidden trail.
Following the fall, the man reported only a few bruises on his hands, arms and back.
He was treated by an ambulance that arrived on the scene, but he did not want to go to the hospital, police said.
The path had clear signs warning of danger and forbidden access, according to the force, which added that the prosecutor will decide whether to proceed with a formal charge against them for invasion of public territory.

The last eruption of Mount Vesuvius took place in 1944. It is still active, but is in a state of repose, according to the Vesuvius National Park website.
The mountain's highest peak reaches 1,277 meters (4,190 feet), while the crater has a diameter of 450 meters (1,476 feet) and is 300 meters (984 feet) deep, the national park's website adds.
Vesuvius had been a dormant volcano for centuries before it erupted in 79 AD, burying cities like Pompeii, Oplontis and Stabiae beneath ash.
Pompeii was submerged under a 23-foot-deep layer of volcanic debris, which preserved the ruins from the detrimental effects of weather and climate. It has since become a popular tourist destination, as well as a rich site of study for archaeologists.

A novel way of removing oneself from the gene pool.

Man dies days after his 18-foot snake wrapped itself around his neck

Pennsylvania police on Wednesday had to fatally shoot the snake to free the victim. Elliot Senseman, 27, died Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest.

A Pennsylvania man died Sunday after his 18-foot pet snake wrapped itself around his neck days earlier, prompting authorities to fatally shoot the reptile, authorities said.

Elliot Senseman, 27, of Upper Macungie Township, died at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest on Sunday, four days after the attack, officials said.

A boa constrictor, or a similar snake, wrapped its body "around the neck of Mr. Senseman, thus causing the anoxic brain injury" and a "complete lack of oxygen to the brain," according to a statement by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

Upper Macungie Township police officers Wednesday were dispatched at 2:12 p.m. ET to the 1400 block of Church Street "for a male in cardiac arrest with a snake wrapped around his neck," according to a department statement.

When the officers arrived, they found the man "who was unresponsive" and on the floor with "a large snake wrapped around" his neck, police said.

Despite "the massive size of the reptile," an officer managed "to shoot the snake in the head without risking further injury to the male," according to the statement.

Officers pulled the mortally wounded snake off the man "at which time emergency medical care was provided," police said.

Do I understand it that the man perished anyway - apparently after several days of strangulation?
Days after police in the Lehigh Valley shot and killed a giant snake that had wrapped itself around the neck of a 27-year-old man, the man died from his injuries.
cause of death "Anoxic Brain Injury due to Asphyxiation by Constriction."
pet snake wrapped itself around his neck days earlier,
"He was dooomed I tell ya - dooomed!"

A 24 year old Englishmsn was yesterday decapitated by the tail rotor of a Bell 407 helicopter at a private airport at Sparta, Greece. He ducked under the main rotor when disembarking but walked into the tail rotor when looking for a good position from which to take a photograph. Death was instantaneous.

He walked towards the rear without knowing the rotor blades were still spinning.

The reporter wrote "it is unclear why this was allowed to happen."

Nice Shot
Man shot woman in neck, before bullet exited and killed him, Dallas PD says

https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/man-s ... him-dallas#

DALLAS - Dallas police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man who investigators said was killed after shooting a woman in the neck, before the bullet exited and hit him in the leg.

The shooting happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, in the 2200 block of Medical District.

Responding officers found a large amount of blood and a blood trail in front of an apartment, but didn’t find anyone inside the apartment.

A call then came in at a nearby hospital about a man and woman with gunshot wounds who were found in a vehicle. Police determined they were involved in the shooting at the apartment.

According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the man, Byron Redmon, shot the woman in the neck. The bullet then exited and hit Redmon in the leg.

Redmon later died from his injuries.

Police said their investigation into this shooting is ongoing.

Couple arrested for having sex on amusement park ride

Should there be an award for trying to pass one's genes along? :-?

https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/coupl ... -park-ride#

SANDUSKY, Ohio - A couple is charged with public indecency for having sex at an Ohio amusement park, according to police.

Authorities at Cedar Point Amusement Park said a man and a woman, both 32 years old, were observed having sexual intercourse on the Giant Wheel ride. The act was witnessed by a group of four women, including two juveniles, according to a police report obtained by FOX Television Stations.

An officer with the Sandusky Police Department said the couple originally denied having sex on the ride. The suspected woman said she had shorts on under her dress and dropped her cigarette pack out of them. That’s when she bent over to pick them up and her partner helped her.

But witnesses maintained the couple was having sex inside the ride’s cart above them and said they saw the couple naked.

Riders also said the couple’s cart was shaking and they could see "both the male and female moving back and forth."

"The group said that the couple knew that they were watching and started laughing and continued their behavior," the police report stated.

Officers said the couple then admitted to having sex. They were both transported to jail.

FOX Television Stations reached out to Cedar Point for comment.
