Last data I saw, there was no difference in death rates for the wearing or not of headgear on motorcycles in the US. The non-wearers obviously have a higher chance of dying in an accident, but they have less accidents, and it seems to cancel out.

What not to do in wartime - tell your enemy where you've just moved to!

Arkansas biker erupts in flames after being tased during chase with state police

https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/26/us/arkan ... index.html

An Arkansas man is in the hospital – but expected to recover – after he was engulfed by a fireball when he was tased by state police while wearing a backpack with a gallon of gasoline inside, according to a news release from Arkansas State Police.

Around 1:18 a.m. on October 13, an Arkansas state trooper tried to stop a motorcycle in Little Rock that had no visible license plate, the release said.

The rider, identified by state police as Christopher Gaylor, 38, drove off at speeds approaching 100 miles an hour, “ignored multiple traffic stop signs and traffic lights as he worked his way toward Interstate 30 where a second state trooper encountered the motorcyclist,” the news release claimed.

He got off the freeway and later jumped from the motorcycle in a residential area and ran, according to the release.

One trooper deployed a taser in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, and state police say as the barbs of the taser struck Gaylor, a fireball engulfed him.

Police dash cam video provided to CNN affiliate KHBS by Arkansas State Police shows troopers screaming “he’s on fire,” and then using a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. According to the statement from state police, the officers provided medical assistance while an ambulance was called to the scene.

“An investigation has since revealed Gaylor was carrying approximately 1 gallon of gasoline in a backpack,” according to the state police statement.

Gaylor remains hospitalized in good condition and is expected to recuperate, police said.

“He faces charges of felony fleeing, failure to register a vehicle, no liability insurance, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving,” according to the state police statement.

No Arkansas State Police personnel are under investigation related to the incident, nor has anyone been placed on administrative leave or disciplined, state spokesperson Bill Sadler told CNN.

Arkansas state police say Gaylor, after abandoning the motorcycle to flee, allegedly never stated he was carrying accelerant in his backpack, nor was there a placard on the exterior of the backpack indicating it contained accelerant.

CNN has made attempts to reach Gaylor. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney.

I reckon this guy would qualify, except he appears to have a son.

For almost a decade, Ron Smith, an attorney and avid motorcycle rider from Pinellas county, Florida, advocated against laws which said motorcyclists had to wear helmets to ride. Eventually, the state law changed.

This August, Smith, 66, and his girlfriend, Brenda Jeanan Volpe, 62, died in a fatal motorcycle crash. Neither was wearing a helmet, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Man dancing on top of 18-wheeler knocked off and killed when truck drives under bridge
The driver of the truck didn't know the man "jumped or climbed" on top of the trailer and started dancing, possibly recording himself, before falling to his death.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ma ... -rcna57645

A 25-year-old man who jumped on top of an 18-wheeler and started dancing died after the truck passed under a bridge and he was knocked off, police said.

The incident unfolded on Nov. 10 at about 11:35 a.m. at 200 Eastex Freeway, the Houston Police Department said in a Monday news release.

The driver of the red Kenworth tractor-trailer truck was traveling southbound and didn’t realize when the man “jumped or climbed onto the top of the trailer portion of the vehicle,” police said.

The man then “began dancing” and was possibly recording himself. He has not been publicly identified.

When the truck passed underneath the Tuam Street bridge, the man “was struck and knocked off the trailer onto the freeway main lanes.”

Paramedics responded to the scene and the man was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was questioned, determined to not be impaired, and released.

The investigation is ongoing. NBC News has reached out to the police department for more details.

15-year-old boy dies after falling off train while subway surfing in Brooklyn
The teen had been riding on top of a southbound J train on the Williamsburg Bridge Thursday when he fell and hit the electrified third rail, police said.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/15 ... -rcna59753

A 15-year-old boy has died after falling off a train while subway surfing in Brooklyn, police said.

The teen had been riding on top of a southbound J train on the Williamsburg Bridge on Thursday morning at around 11:30 a.m. when he fell off, the New York City Police Department said in a statement.

The boy fell underneath the train and made contact with the electrified third rail, the statement added.

Officers responded to the incident, but the boy was pronounced dead, police said.

Police did not identify the teen.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is responsible for public transportation in the New York City metropolitan area of New York, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News.

Thursday's incident comes after a number of subway surfing cases were reported this and last year.

In June, a 15-year-old boy was critically injured after hitting his head while subway surfing on top of a New York City train. The boy was believed to have been riding on top of the train car as it entered the station and struck his head on “an unknown object” and suffered “severe head trauma,” police said at the time.

Earlier that month, a video circulated on social media had showed about eight people subway surfing, running and also dancing on top of a northbound J train as it passed over the Williamsburg Bridge.

Thursday's incident is not the first time a case of subway surfing has turned deadly. In October 2021, a 32-year-old man died after falling on the tracks also while on a J train over the Williamsburg Bridge.

OK, I think this guy qualifies. Driving with loaded rifle in the back, either not properly secured, or secured pointing at him.
A man was killed during a weekend hunting trip in Kansas when a dog stepped on a rifle and discharged the gun, the Sumner County Sheriff's office said.

Deputies were dispatched at 9:47 a.m. local time Saturday to investigate a 911 call that 30-year-old Joseph Austin Smith of Wichita had been shot in the back inside a pickup truck in Geuda Springs, police said.

The sheriff's office said teams arrived within minutes of the call and, after finding Smith in the front passenger seat of the truck, started CPR life-saving measures. Smith ultimately died from the gunshot wound.

The dog, which belongs to the truck's owner, was in the back seat of the truck with hunting gear — including the rifle — when the dog stepped on the gun, according to police. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

I was late seeing this gem posted by Woody!

That is definitely one of the funniest things I have seen thus far today. The best bit is when he wobbles around as he tries to straighten his motor scooter up after falling off. I liked it so much I am going to play it again and again... =))
