Wow, that post-herpetic-neuralgia sounds a real bummer! As it happens, I recently had my annual health check at the local GP Medical Centre (and passed, happily!). The practice nurse told me about the NHS shingles vaccination available to over - 70s, so I replied that I can recall having chicken-pox as a child, wouldn't that give me immunity? Apparently not, so I sensibly agreed to have the shot, and hopefully I'm now at reduced risk of getting shingles. Fingers crossed, and touch wood.
I was in my GP's waiting room browsing the reading material when I found a leaflet about shingles injection for the over 70s. I asked my GP about it and he tut-tutted saying "Oh dear, how did we miss you?". However, he looked at my records and said "You had the shingles injection 3 years ago".
"No I didn't!" I replied, "I would have remembered."
Alas, when I got home and looked on my computer diary there it was, 3 years previously "See GP for shingles jab"! Yet another Senior Moment.

If a Slough postcode is good enough for Ex-A’s old boss, then it’s good enough for me :D

Feels like 33 now. No thunderstorms - maybe tomorrow when the Y Not Festival really gets going. Last year it was cut short owing to a very muddy washout. :D Have just remembered that a few years ago one June I was in Buxton for a concert. When we got back to the car at 2330 it was 24C. :-o I think I took a photo of the event.

Pleased to hear the dentist gig went well lg. Did you sign your life away during the phone call?

Hope all went well with the cardio discussion angels.

Fingers crossed and wood touched that my shingles and symptoms continue to be mild. Friend checked the splodge on my back (right in the middle where one can't see or feel it) and confirmed it has almost disappeared. Thanks for the tip re amitriptyline Magnus. I have a stash of 10mg tabs prescribed after a knee clear out. Will give it a go tonight. i-)

The temperature is still hovering around 20C. 27C foretold by the guessers for today.

My version of the shingles is at much the same stage as TB's. About 75% of the crusty scabs
have now fallen off leaving just a bit a red scarring. It doesn't look like I'll be suffering any PHN.

The scar from the heart surgery is also clearing up a treat. Most of the scabs have gone leaving a nice clean scar.
Pain is still with me though.

The much vaunted downpour didn't materialise yesterday. A bit of flashing and banging last night but no rain.

Today is FRIDAY

Gotterdammerung here, set against a blood moon and the orange glow of an impressive Cb ascending to the vaults of the Gods. Lightning, thunder and even rain my friends! We, who they would destroy, have been driven mad by the humidity and the continual dripping of the drops against the arbor. No blood mind, just water, water everywhere, even to drink!

For the rest a cup of tea and the knowledge that it is "day of Frige", as we pay our respects to Frigg, or Venus, in our own particular way! Not by lawful acts in connubium or even the libertine's unmarried carnal rites of passage here, but in the very peaceful English swirl of the surface of a tea cup with an old pewter teaspoon!

Morning folks.

Good grief Caco, that's a bit heavy for this time in the morning - I'm still having me first mug of tea.

Quite a bit of Thor banging his hammer last night and I reckon him and his mate Odin had been out on the pop as well.

May have a trip to the seaside this later morning. Have to visit senior daughter's house in Louth - the delights of Mablethorpe beckon!!
It's always my fault - SWMBO

What a difference 3 hours makes. Sky now clear, humidity is 85% and the mercury is climbing and yours truly is wet with sweat having hit the bike for an hour...

I misread that as Matabeleland just for a second. The bishop is bashing against my transom! =))

Thank Frigg it is Friday!

Decided today to officially retire from airline flying. Dunno when yet, but am actively looking for sim destructor jobs close to home. Just sent off a resume to CAE.

I spoke to HR yesterday after a Venus and they confirm 90 days notice is required but 60 days is possible since they're not short of drivers at present.

I feel so much better having finally made the decision. :)

Morning folks.

Not doing much today. Have decided on a curry for tonight's grub however.

Slash. No looking back.

Nowt wrong with an SL postcode. I used to have one.

The one you have to watch around there is UB. UB1 is not central Uxbridge, but Southall.

Buxton, Still the only place to have 'Snow Stopped Play' in the scorebook of a 1st class cricket match.

Well Cacophonix must have had all Thor to himself, as all we had was about 20 minutes of light rain and you wouldn’t know about that as the ground was bone dry by 06.30, when my four legged alarm clock decided it was breakfast time, she hasn’t worked out my shift pattern yet I don’t start until 14.30 today :((

Good luck Slasher :YMPARTY:

Morning all,
Normal, viz poor, heat haze. Paco thinks 29 so low 30s then.

Good decision *Slash* after the initial misgivings you will know it's the right decision.

SM is at the new Doc this morning, multiple 'B' defects. She has decided she don't like him and hasn't seen him yet.

The Finns next door have been visiting for the first time in 18 months, they seem to have finished weeding and are going home today.

Must re-borrow the ladders.

Well done Slasher. It is a big step but it will pan out for the best in the end. I bet you feel at peace for having made the decision anyhow.

At the very least you won't go blind for drinking homemade hooch in unpleasant Muslim countries! =))

May the rest of your life be good wine and roses for you and your beloved.

Mention of shift patterns reminded me of the occasion many years ago on day 3 of a Maxeval when the visiting Air Officer asked my Armourer Chf Tech, "What shift system are you working Chief?" Chief's response of "Standard 2 shift system sir, shift your a*** in at the beginning and shift it out at the end" did not generate a smile.

Well done, Slash. It will be the beginning of life as it should be lived. It was for me and I have never had a moment's regret.

As for postcodes, my one sister has an SL postcode, she nearly didn't buy the house purely on that basis. She rejected another one as it had an 01753 (Slough) telephone number, in the days before VoIP when you could 'choose', as well as an SL postcode. She lives in the Chalfonts and reckons that they should have their own postcode beginning with SN08 until I pointed at that that is Swindon which is arguably even worse than Slough.
