Customs have the package and refused to release it until they have proof of payment and a letter not e,mail. W@nkers
You gotta establish reliable contacts in important departments esp those that can squish your testicles at will sah (cops Customs etc). How d'ya think I get all those bottles of undocumented Gulf 'shine into BKK without a hitch, and keep rifles with ammo in my home here?

Glad to see you are here Nigel. Ex-A aren't you sure you have something to attract some administrative troubles all over the place?

Hi folks.

Kitchen reconstruction continues.
Its art day, so Mrs IB broke her car battery and was running about blaming me for it. It's never her.
Had to take her and another dawber to where they meet. They say they will ring to get picked up.
Well, they could be lucky or not, as I am waiting for garage to arrive to fit new battery in her car in the next hour and for a package to be delivered. I've already missed the kitchen installer in chief, twice, whilst I was out delivering her, so am not a happy bunny.

Also friend who lives nearby, tried to top himself on Saturday night by drinking a bottle of Bacardi in 15 mins, then slashing wrists. So he's in hospital.

Assumed Mandela Day was a Bank Holiday, officially not, but many people have taken a day off.

Capt the problem Is that it is Gabarone not little old Maun here. Have contacts here in customs, the police, local goernment and immigration.

RiS it is because we live complicated lives.

Just been to a safari camp up river from town. The locals are walking along the dry river bed making a new track. They are sure that our lagoon will dry up for 4-5 years. Our jetty is already standing on dry land with Squiffy Pussy III grounded along side. A very sorry sight.

Nice to see you back, Nigel.

Just watch those bloody medics there. They can be thieving bastards. Before my MiL died of cancer they performed 2 unnecessary operations on her largely because they knew her daughter was married to a foreigner and had money.

Sproglettes are off to Latitude tomorrow and the weather forecast looks like crap so they will no doubt have the full English Summer Festival experience 😀

Reminds me of a meeting we had at SHAPE. It was normal to travel Sunday and assemble around 10 on Monday. This Monday Belgium was shut. No shops, filling stations, coffee shops etc. Nothing. Spooky.

Around mid afternoon the florists opened so people could buy flowers and chuck them in the cemetery. Then the bars opened so they could remember the dead.

My first visit to Denmark I arrived on a Saturday morning only to find everywhere closed at midday (apart from the small bakeries).

My first Saturday in Germany, 1976, I went to Mönchengladbach after lunch only to find everything shut at 14:00.

SA used to shut on Saturday lunchtime.

The few open establishments had to jump through hoops to comply with the archaic Calvinistic laws.

It was legal to sell fresh peas, and illegal to sell tinned ones.

The Mondeo had two new low-rolling resistance Michelins fitted for €302. Afterwards took my Godson to lunch as he's flying back to Southampton Uni tomorrow. Restaurant proprietor, the lovely Silvia, presented Mrs OFSO with a bottle of Muscatel as we left. Very muggy here.

The supermarkets weren't allowed to sell alcohol on Sundays, because all good people were of course in church. In fact for many years they weren't even allowed to open on Sundays.

They used to put up a flimsy wooden trellis to block access to the aisles that had alcohol. We just used to push it aside, help ourselves, take the stuff, and go and pay for it.

Britain went through various subterfuges (such as selling furniture and carpets whilst giving away groceries) before Sunday trading became accepted.

Bloody funny incident here just now. Took memsahib her afternoon drink in the bath in the safari outside bathroom. There is a small tropical garden in there. As I passed it a mongoose shot out. Trapped by me at the entrance it tried to get away via the bath. Up on the washing machine couple of half circuits of the top of the bath. Nearly fell in, then shot behind the washing machine and out of a gap in the fence. It would have been really funny if it had ended up in the bath with 'er.

Just been reported that after this she had eight wild bees sitting on her legs whilst she wallowed.

Genny running for pool pump. Now 25 cups of chlorine put into the pool since refill. Solar has done well at pumping it today though. Solar yield of 9.45 kWh. Not bad for the winter. Blue, but not up to my standards. A little cloudy but can see dead frog tourists now in chains down on the bottom so that is satisfying. If we could pump it 24 a day the recovery would be much faster.

Tell you Wodders by the end of the weekend it will be gin clear blue. I think our advantage is the water. It is absolutely pure rain water from the Delta filtered by the vegetation. This is the main reason it is brown until treated. Used to mess about with PH balance but given up now. Just do it by judgment, colour, smell and clarity. It was a tough learning curve though.
