Hot in Salisbury (Wilts) this afternoon, I was rather surprised that the pub at the centre of the Russian poisoning has not cashed in on the event, named a pub cocktail after it for example.
Not many tourists about, generally there are squads of Chinese marching around the Cathedral but not today.

A Novichoktail. That would go down well.

Successful and very easy repair of leaking pool filter (if you had the parts, that is !) in the morning. Then waited in all day, five pm huge truck arrives, two men jump out. Well, I say "men", 'golem' would be more appropriate. Brown, swarthy faces, flat-noses, about five foot tall and six feet wide across the shoulders. Arms like oak trees, heavily tattooed. Picked up old machine I'd carried outside, stuffed it in truck, brought in new one, connected power, and with my help from inside the cabinet, connected water and waste, punched buttons in front, display lights up, uttered their first words in South American Spanish "don't touch anything for fifteen minutes !" jumped in truck, which had been blocking the road much to the annoyance of French swine from further up, and were gone. Ten minutes as timed by wife. Cost for delivery, installation, and disposal of old one was €19.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members are allowed to remove their jackets on the first two days of England's Test match against Ireland at Lord's due to the hot weather.
MCC members usually have to obey to strict dress regulations but in this one-off Test which starts on Wednesday, they will not have too due to a heatwave across Europe.
The information was sent via email to members of the famous cricket ground on behalf of MCC secretary and chief executive Derek Brewer.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

It got to 25.3C today here in NE Scotland. I couldn't understand why my weather station website was saying it was moderate drizzle for the whole morning when the sun was blazing. It turned out that a shitehawk or similar had crapped in my rain gauge and blocked it. The rain from the day before yesterday had filled up the bucket. It had started to dissolve the crap and water dripped onto the see-saw mechanism that records rainfall - 0.2mm every time the mechanism tips.
The helicopter pilots' mantra: If it hasn't gone wrong then it's just about to...

Morning. Day 3 with my infants. Back to cockpit trainer. Sim on hold. I'm not looking forward to it at all. Can't believe I'm trying to train them the basic basics of flying before we even start on the sim proper!
Just heard on the grapevine 150 Etihad drivers in Abu got the arse on Monday. Rolled up for work - there's your severance pay - don't come back Tuesday. Considering how much in the financial sh!t EY is I'm surprised they even got that.

Fixed the car aircon today. I got hold of one of those home recharge kits but then was briefly stumped by the problem that for it to work, the compressor needs to be running, but was not running, presumably because the pressure was too low. Except in poking around attempting to bypass various things, it kicked into life and I topped up the system to proper operating pressure. I was suspicious of the relay so I ordered a new one on Amazon because it was offering free same-day delivery. Sure enough, things stopped working again so I replaced the relay when the new one turned up. Things appear to be OK now.
I stripped down the old relay and yes, signs of corrosion and an important bit had broken loose so it was not at all reliable.

Is the compressor belt driven ? The consequence of mine being electric is its tucked away out of sight instead of being bolted to the block.

Morning all.
A little misty this morning which is not surprising given the amount of water that fell to
Earth during the night accompanied by one of the most spectacular electrical storms I've ever seen.
Not much sleep had.

Morning folks from a freezing Botswana. The August winds seem to have started early. OAT 6 degs but with wind chill nearer zero. Very unusually had to retire indoors until the sun comes over the tree line. Normally outside dawn to dusk. Our chap is raking leaves. With this wind he is fighting a losing battle.
We have jungle bunnny noise problems again from the other side of the lagoon. It went on until 01.00 and started again at 06.00. It has now stopped. We think that they work in town and this is just an allotment. Was going to see the chief about it but no point if they are not here.

Morning all,
'bout the same as the U.K. today it seems.
I will remove the Jacket and Tie that I don't possess.
Today's activity will centre around the Gestoria and changing our wills, reflecting our differing views 10 years since they were first doozed.
Punto has an inflamed stomach, his diet has been changed.
Builder has rolled up on his own, when he is on his own very little gets done, this bit of terracing is taking forever.
