On the steep hillside roads of Matero north of Barcelona where there is so much concrete that there is nowhere for the rain to sink in, we usually measure the consequence of rainfall in units: the size of vehicles being swept out to sea, starting with the tiny 50cc licence-free Aixim, progressing thru Fords and the like, up to Grosser Mercedes and finally the municipality garbage trucks. Half units are NR street vendors, and quarter units little old ladies with walking sticks.

Useless units

I see the paper report on the heavy rain in Spain quotes a record 169 litres per square metre. I suppose one way of thinking is 3 tanks of petrol all dumped in a one metre square tank.
That is the same as 169mm of rain on a linear rain gauge.
Or, as I calculated, 6.6 inches. My point was that for a UK readership the units were as meaningful as furlongs per fortnight.

When one is referring to fast ladies and/or slow horses, furlongs per fortnight is a very appropriate unit of measure.

Thank you folks for your weather reports. Blazing sunshine and diminishing lagoon. Pre-lunch scotch by the pool.

Twenty nine degrees here in NE Spain and oppressive. Only one more day, then back to civilisation for months.

The wind is 35 gusting 48 here and with the leaves still on the branches I fear we may lose one tree in the driveway which is swaying rather too much. Fortunately it's outside falling distance of the house.....

Just been watching Airliners Live from Machester Airport on the book of faces.A Dakota from a nearby air show made an emergency landing after losing No1 donk.
The airport came to a complete standstill for a while due to it landing on 23L which was the departure runway. They have left the Dakota shut down on 23L till they can get a new elastic band.Departures now switched to 23R.

On the subject of robberies, I see that thieves have targeted an "art installation" in Blenheim Palace. They made off with a solid gold, functioning loo. It was fully functional and visitors could use it for its intended purpose, with a 3 minute max to prevent queues. ?????

I guess the time limit was to restrict the time would would have to cut a piece off as a souvenir with one of these.

It's stoopid time of the year again, Spring here. Today Sunday the temp topped out at 29 degC. The forecast for Tuesday top of 14 degC. Then next Friday back up to 25 degC

Good morning to all.
Windy here but this might be a good thing: a set of bedroom sheets is being dried in this nice morning.

Morning folks

Normal weather restored. Temperature back up as well.

Seems the well sung about Torremolinos had streets turned into rivers the other night.

Morning folks, Wodders I am on to the mission have e-mail address for G-CPTN.

Standard weather in fact now getting quite warm.

Committee meeting decided no dogs but CCTV to be fitted. Will try to get remote monitoring through our satellite system so that we can see what is going on when we are in Greece. Going to see the Chief this week and give him the trophy for the football match he asked us to buy. Will tell him nothing more for the community until his people stop robbing us. Why donate things when they just take them anyway?

Sorry forget who asked the questions but no swag retrieved yet. We have no security fence. One can just hop over the gate. A massive security fence would indicate we had significant goods to steal which we do not. They would get in anyway. Many places in town have security fences including electric, they still get in. They even have night guards. On one occasion the robbers got over the fence and the guards let them out of the gate with all the loot. As a few esteemed members of this forum know, this is Africa. You live with it, or get out of it. We will not let the bastards get us down.

Dull, damp and grey here on the Costa del Lancashire. T'was nice yesterday - when half the country seemed to be getting soaked - and procrastination did not rule as it usually does, so I managed to get a second coat of preservative on a new side gate that was delivered and fitted on Friday. o:-)

Now just about to sort out all the photos I took on our week's stay in Anglesey from which we returned on Thursday. Must be slipping, we only took 235; it was over 420 last time we were there.
furlongs per fortnight is a very appropriate unit of measure.
