Ex-A..
We went to Oz with Swiss in business which was excellent. The route was Swiss to HongKong and then Cathay to Melbourne, back was Singapore Airlines and then Swiss home from SIN. We rated them Cathay, Swiss, Singapore in that order but all were very good.
They are too expensive this year when we go to Oz so we are leaning towards Finnair or Lufthansa.

Morning folks. One is not well. Nursie says a bug. Feel fine lying down but I am not one to lie in bed in the daylight. Did try for an hour but got bored. Now having a breakfast beer, that should help.
Still no attempt to move the borehole machine. The longer they leave it the deeper it will go. Having said that they have just started it up. goodness knows why.
Apparently the driver was told by the foreman to drive it into there.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Should have been town day today and take in the wrecked car to be repaired but one was too sick. OK now probably a 24 hr thing.
OK, two chaps came this morning to the sinking machine. Started it up three times and revved it a bit. Then attached a piece of scaffolding between the back of it and the shovel on the JCB then bogged off. There is no way that JCB will lift it out. It will tip onto it's nose. I hope they don't do it tomorrow when we are in town.
Edit: Copied DC1. Yes Swiss is expensive but difference between business and 1st is not as bad as EK. Not sure yet which class to take.

That's good going. I did once manage 20 minutes from aircraft door to clearing customs at SFO. That was when international arrivals turned up in what is now Terminal 2 and had baggage claim before passport control. I had the seat just inside the door and my bag was one of the first half-dozen on the belt that day.

Two weeks ago managed thirty minutes from getting off the Eurostar train from Paris to entering our front door in London. Taxi driver (black cab) said I remember you from four months ago, no need for directions. Unusually, no traffic jams.

Years ago I was taking can young woman to the camp theatre. At short notice we were put on a sortie. When we landed the skipper stopped the aircraft abeam ATC, I jumped out, ran to Ops to drop off the secret stuff, "but you haven't landed yet" On moped to the block, stripped, showered, suited, off to theatre - 11 minutes.
It would take me 11 minutes down the ladder today.

11 minutes is how long it used to take me also. The worst time was when we were dumped outside an Army Mess block, and had a Mess Dinner to dress for. Piled into the ablutions to discover...only baths! It is possible, but not easy, bathing in 2 inches of (cold) water. I immediately realised why the Army were called Pongoes.

5 mins at MUB from doors open to the nearest pub in town. If you are 1 A&B, residents and only hand baggage. Always works.

Remember Merv Parry (Hastings) got from the No 1 Mess, home and changed for ship wreck party at No 2 Mess at Lindholm in the time it took Mrs P to get from the telephone at the guardroom back home to MQ
Merv was still wearing his No 1 uniform, less jacket plus RAF Blue and White stripped wincyette PJs.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Apparently, the fire engine that the Extinction Rebellion lot used in London today to spray red stuff over the Treasury building is untaxed.
I wonder how many offences were committed and will action be taken?
Driving an untaxed (and uninsured?) vehicle.
No MOT?
Driver qualified to drive the vehicle?
Criminal damage to a listed building?
Low emission zone violation?
Payment of Congestion Charge?
Parking on a Red Route?
Discharging the red stuff into a water course?

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
A court case in Skegness done by years ago found that a serviceable fire engine, whether painted red or in this case psychedelic pattern, was exempt from vehicle excise duty.
A friend of mine won the case.
I don't know if the rule was amended.
