Hello and welcome to a mizzly dull morning here in the East Midlands of the UK.
And you're very welcome to it. 13C and a high of 15C forecast. No use to man nor beast is that.
It's July for crying out loud.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your animals UP. Thy give us so much pleasure in life and so much
grief on their death. Chin up and remember the good times.

Given the weather I don't think I'll be doing much today. A wheelbarrow inner tube should arrive in the
post so maybe a bit of barrow fettling will be undertaken.

Went to the pub yesterday very early evening and met up with a few old chums who are also still shielding
but so fed up of seeing nobody. Nice to see them but the pub experience was literally very sterile and
lacking in any spontaneity. Don't think I'll bother again until it's all properly over.

I may pop into Derby to visit the fish market on Friday as apparently since all the high end restaurants are still closed
the quality of fish available to we plebs has markedly improved. We shall see. To call it a fish market is overstating it
more than a little. There is only one stall left. 5 years ago there were 4 or 5.

Enjoy your Wednesday folks. It's the only one we get this week.

Morning folks.

High cloud this morning, presently 24c heading up past 30 later.

Condolences on loss of GD2, UP.

The fish market reduction is not confined to Derby or even the UK, hands. The "brick market" in central Fuengirola has no more than four active merchants wth more than double that number no longer existing.

Talking of wheelbarrows, I watched an old edition of Tomorrow's World, and mention was made of the ballbarrow - what happened? was it useless or did the company cease trading?

I see that it was a Dyson product.

The usual flock of ravenous Rainbow Lorikeets here again this afternoon, I'm watching the last two in the bird house attached to the Norfolk Pine, that is right above my monitor in line of sight. Joined by the 2 Scaly breasted Lorikeets today, haven't seen them for about a month. Also a couple of pairs of blue faced honeyeaters, they also haven't been around for a month or so. Several Butcher birds, Magpies, and a chorus from the Kookaburras in the wooded area behind.

Maybe 15 years ago a very lovely bird used to visit, Pheasant like it was. I've not been able to find out exactly what it was....around thees parts it was likely a Pheasant Coucal, but the one that visited here was rather more lovely.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's son
I'm only plucking pheasants 'till the pheasant plucker comes.

Me husband is a keeper, he's a very busy man
I try to understand him and I help him all I can,
But sometimes in an evening I feel a trifle dim
All alone, I'm plucking pheasants, when I'd rather pluck with him.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mate
I'm only plucking pheasants 'cos the pheasant plucker's late !

I'm not good at plucking pheasants, at pheasant plucking I get stuck
Though some pheasants find it pleasant I'd rather pluck a duck.
Oh plucking geese is gorgeous, I can pluck a goose with ease
But pheasant plucking's torture because they haven't any grease.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, he has gone out on the tiles
He only plucked one pheasant and I'm sitting here with piles !

You have to pluck them fresh, if it's fresh they're not unpleasant,
I knew a man in Dunstable who could pluck a frozen pheasant.
They say the village constable had pheasant plucking sessions
With the vicar on a Sunday 'tween the first and second lessons.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mum
I'm only plucking pheasants 'till the pheasant plucker's come.

My good friend Godfrey is most adept, he's really got the knack
He likes to have a pheasant plucked before he hits the sack.
I like to give a helping hand, I gather up the feathers,
It's really all our pheasant plucking keeps us pair together.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's friend
I'm only plucking pheasants as a means unto an end !

My husband's in the forest always banging with his gun
If he could hear me half the time I'm sure that he would run,
For there's fluff in all my crannies, there's feathers up my nose
And I'm itching in the kitchen from my head down to my toes.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's wife
And when we pluck together it's a pheasant plucking life !

Morning everyone, we report very similar to HF, obviously caused by the First Test Match of the summer being due to start in Southampton this morning :((

Got an appointment for an eye test this afternoon, might go into town a bit early to get estimates for the removal of my Freddie Boswell hairstyle :D
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Morning folks. Sorry UP, you don't seem to have too much luck recently, what with animals and daughters. Hope that she is making a good recovery.

Very odd sound in the early hours like very loud 'quacking'. Went on for a few minutes. Can't think what it could be will ask the night guard if he saw anything.

Usual perishing start to the day now sitting in the sun. Got to try and find the Chief in a bit to get him to sign some papers for the bank. Then meet a lunch guest at the safari camp. She was front of house manager at the safari camp the other side of town which we used to go to. Now closed permanently so she is redundant. Well past retirement age but it was something to do.

More watering going on, it is fruit and veg watering day.

Morning all,
A normal CdS day if a little hazy, 27c rising guess is 34c, same as achieved yesterday.

English bank cards is evolving into a saga, letter written, now for the challenge of the Post Office.

E-mail at 0030 from Spanish Bank, card blocked suspect fraudulent activity. It was SM buying on Big River.
Responded that it was non-fraudulent and this morning a further mail said they have unblocked the card.

I could get fed up with all this.

Cape, typical Dyson trying to make a better widget. I think it was not possible to sell it for £300. I had a wheel barrow with a conventional wheel but Dyson shape. It had some useful features but could beat the conventional builders barra.

A day spent hacking out unwanted Ixora plants, and other such 'weeds'...flower seedlings planted into hanging baskets, hanging from the Norfolk pine....entire front garden mulched with sugar cane mulch...a productive day, the back and arms assure me of this!

Sympathies to UP.

Mrs 4ma busy making the house look presentable (i.e hiding the grandkids' Lego and toys) cos I've got a video consultation with the quack later today and she doesn't want the house 'looking like a tip' (her words). It's me he want's to see not the house!!!

Staying in today cos it's right proper miserable outside.

Haircuts for the OFSOs today with the husband and wife team at the barbers in Figueras. Very nice people and do excellent cuts. Last enjoyed their scissors and razors on February 5th. Hope we don't have to wait another five months for the next one, but with the CV infection rate in Catalunia taking off like a rocket, who knows....

You should see the amount of effort that goes into making our house presentable for the burglars when we go away :((

It has been a year since I bought a motorbike, so giving into the urge I have just visited my local Royal Enfield dealer, he has given me a nice price on a stock bike and I am collecting it next week.

What does the gold cylinder on the rear suspension do?

It is a compressed gas accumulator to assist in smooth operation of the shock absorber.
In the early days, dampers worked by dry friction, but their stick-slip motion was jerky. Modern dampers are smoothly supple because they consist of an oil-filled cylinder and movable piston linked to the suspension. The suspension motion drives the piston, which pumps oil back and forth through restrictive orifices. This converts the energy of suspension motion into the energy of fast-moving jets of damping fluid—energy dissipated as heat. The warmth of a rear shock in use is the energy taken from suspension movement.

As the damper piston moves, pressure ahead of it is high but the low pressure behind it can pull the damper oil apart, or cavitate it. To prevent impacts as cavitated regions collapse, damper oil is pressurized by gas behind an accumulator piston—whose cylinder is the “pistol grip” of today’s most common damper design.
Technical explanation.
