I looked at this Brough Superior this afternoon, you might like this as a run around?

In the spirit of TRABB, George Brough and his mate T E Lawrence used to frequent the
pub which I use as my local. Rumour has it that George was enjoying a dalliance with
the landlady.

Wx here as yesterday. Wet, not particularly warm and no hope for the rest of the day.

Morning all,
Normal CdS although cooler, guess is 28, currently 22.

The fencing chaps are present, on time, and unloaded. Starting work at 08.15.
We are creating a dog pen about 2,000 sqm on a flatish bit.

SM is horsepitil today to see Surgeon about incision. Appointment was originally February.

Henry is unknown, maybe vet, he seemed to have grass in ear again last night, doesn't seem too bad at present.
He is preoccupied with the workmen however.

Had another screw in tyre yesterday, flat just as I was going for the ITV. had car four years, that's the sixth puncture.
Dunno why. Six front tyres. Four different manufacturers.

Morning.
Same weather as on the east of the bay, but temp is 24c. High temp guess looks far too low.

Trip to Porky Pies emporium in Benalmadena later for some .....pork pies.

That sounds a bit suspicious. Same location or area?

Have you upset a neighbour? We know a lady who was having a similar problem and it turned out to be one of her neighbours who had a "mental health" problem - he was just a nasty bastard but used his "condition" as an excuse for the trouble he caused. Police were called several times but just shrugged their shoulders - "we have to make allowances".

Damp and miserable. Mrs 4ma has tasked me to go out and procure some consumables - she says she's having a pyjama day.

It's very difficult to get a screw into the tread of a tyre. They usually get picked up and work their way in by which time the head is well worn.

Stabbing the sidewall is a quick and easy way to destroy a tyre.

I bought a 5-year old Merc, almost brand new full sized spare wheel in the back. Still there 10 years later when I scrapped the car. That wheel had a screw in it. It might have been a short screw but I never tried to take it out as the tyre never lost pressure.

Do spare tyres have shelf lifes?

They have I don't know how long but the main issue is that the pressure needs to be checked regularly because the day they will be needed they were be flat.

Yes, tyres do have a shelf life, regardless of usage and wear, as they deteriorate, specially if exposed to the sun, which if a spare is in a boot is not usually a problem, but the rubber can go brittle.

In the sidewall of every tyre there is a 4 digit number in an oval window. The first two digits indicate the week of the year in which it was manufactured, and the last two the year, so 2608 would have been manufactured roughly in June 2008.

Safe life is claimed by manufacturers at around 6-8 years.

The age indicator is quite useful. I once looked at a 5 year old car, and when I asked the seller why two of the tyres were 4 years older than the car, he became aggressively defensive, allowing me to to walk away without wasting any more time.

I know. The good thing about that tyre was the storage was at the side of the boot, move cover and check pressure. The replacement car was:

Remove boot floor, remove 6/7 seats, remove car jack, unscrew wheel refining nut, remove wheel, check pressure, reverse procedure. Naturally I checked the pressure weekly and before any long journey - yeah right.

Present car surprising came with a full size spare, don't know why the salesman specified it, I didn't, but again you cannot check the pressure in situ.

The other thing is you need to over inflate it as sods law is the car will be fully laden.

Now punctures, and even tyre replacement, are never convenient but my worse one was a fully laden car with two children in the back rushing to get the ferry to France. We managed to get through the ferry check-in with the tyre losing pressure all the time. Then unloaded all the boot, fitted the space saver and had to squeeze the full size wheel in with the children. SAAB helpfully provided a bag!
